The second half of this book is spectacular. As someone who grew up obsessed with The West Wing, I love learning about the backstage details at the White House. And, as someone who has begun dabbling in speechwriting, I appreciate the struggles that Keenan describes, and I admire his writing immensely. The ending absolutely made me cry.

That said, I found the beginning of the book to be a bit disorganized, and I was confused about which pieces were part of The Ten Days, and which were separate memoir reflections.

I also was disappointed to see that this author was not immune to White Dude Syndrome, in which he applies his perspective to “Americans” writ-large. (E.g. “Americans began to realize…” rather than “white Americans began to realize…”)

Otherwise, I quite enjoyed this book, and I am sure it will become a useful resource for me.

This book is beautiful. I cried multiple times; tears of sadness and happiness, and even in the epilogue. Cody truly did an amazing job with this book.

This story is about ten days in Obama's presidency told from Cody's point of view, who was one of the speech writers for Obama.  Here are some things that I learned:
1-It would not be fun to be a speech writer
2-Obama was probably the best President there ever was (I already thought this, but this book cemented it even more).  He is so smart.
3-A lot goes into speeches for the President

This book really made me miss Obama as President.  There were times where the story would bog down on the little details that I didn't really care about.  I thought that day 10 was the best day from the story.  There are times where I got a little emotional.  Reading about what happened many years after the fact and how things are slowly being taken away is gutting.  I did like Cody's snippets about the other people in working in the White House including himself.  I wish that we had these stories about the people while they were working in the White House so that we could've appreciated them more.
