A mystifying, deeply challenging work of art. Cyclical. Poetic. Stymying.

I don't think I totally got this book, but I also don't think I was its intended audience. As a work of prose poetry, it is beautifully meditative. As a piece of literature, I'm not fully sure.

re-read for class and it’s still challenging, but i get it

a move away from seeing the land through western centred lens. this decentering captures both the allegory/feeling for displacement from land. a reminder that the land really is everything

a genre-bending rule breaker, that will challenge you to read/think/feel in new ways

At times mindbending, disorienting, challenging, but always imaginatively expansive, Abel's writing contains multitudes and *Empty Spaces* is an experience like no other. Definitely read more than once and not at all like you might read other books.

I have never read a novel like this. There is a rhythm and a repetition that was so interesting and captivating; it also made it very difficult to read. Will come back.

This book is like a fever dream. It's beautifully lyrical and both facinating and frustrating. At any given moment I'm only about 40% sure of what's happening. I've never read anything like it.

Ethereal and meditative. A linear read this is not! Only take on if you are in the mood for this journey.
