Plot wise this would probably deserve three stars, but the smut is spectacular and deserves an additional star all on its own.

The only thing that reminded me of Beauty and the Beast in this “retelling” is the title of the book. In saying that, it’s a cute romance. Felt like I never really got a chance to connect to the characters but loved their dynamic.. and obviously Lin 😏

I really wish I connected to the characters more because I definitely would have enjoyed it more if that was the case. I think for me it all happened too quickly so there wasn’t enough tension or build up so I struggled to feel much when big things happened or declarations were made. The ideal was cute but the actual book just didn’t do much for me!

3.5 LumberBear stars!

I enjoyed this book quite a bit, but didn’t love it as much as I had hoped to. Beauty & the Beast is one of my favourite retellings to read and this was a very light interpretation of the story.

Jasper is our heroine who recently tanked her entire career with an on-air confession about her boss. My son’s middle name is Jasper so I had to continually remind myself during the read that it was the heroine and not the hero! I liked her gumption when it came to trying and make the best out of the situation she was in. Run down inheritance – check. House full of bats – check. Busted water tank – check. Grumpy neighbour who needs to mansplain everything – check.

I wanted to undo him in every way, wanted him as mindless as he made me.

Who doesn’t like a broody hero who enjoys his solitude? And, where can I find my own Lumberbear? I wanted to love Linden more… I wanted him more broody, a bit more of an angry grump.

My heart didn't choose anyone because it didn't want anyone. My heart loved solitude with some fun thrown in when the mood was right. My heart craved the predictable cadence of the earth moving through seasons. My heart wanted to beat free of entanglements.

At about 75% I got so annoyed with the heroine and almost threw in the towel.
SpoilerJasper was working in her garden and discovered a multitude of apples on the ground. Instead of looking at the trees around her, she walks next door to Linden to ask why there could possibly be apples in her garden. He then had to explain that there were apple trees on her property and she was surprised by this. *smack forehead in exasperation*

Overall and enjoyable read that felt like a slow burn but there was plenty of heat.
