This was the final book that I have read from Jennifer worth. It's has some nice stories in there and some story's that are heart breaking, beautifully written.

This book dealt with an abortionist and I found it a bit harder than the previous two to get through. Great writing style and I really felt connected to the characters.

The last of Jennifer Worth's three memoirs about her life working as a nurse and midwife in London's East End in the '50's with the nuns of Nonnatus House. I am so glad she wrote these books. It is so interesting to read a good story--even a painful and sad story--when it really happened. Worth had a talent for telling a story--no matter how grave--in way that wasn't voyeurist (I'm not sure if that is the perfect word, but it's the one that comes to mind) in nature. She was truly empathetic and nonjudgmental.

This was not my favorite of the series, though I enjoyed the end a great deal; hearing how everyone turned out, and Chummy's wedding. I don't agree with some reviewers that this one is bleaker than the others. There are difficult stories in all three books, and I was equally disturbed by the workhouse stories in the 2nd book as I was by some of these. But there are long stories, stretching several chapters, that don't involve much of the characters we know and love, and there are a few chapters that are more general information about a certain topic than they are story.

Ack! So good yet again! It was great to read the differences between the show and the memoirs. What was different, and what was exactly the same!

For the whole trilogy:
Interesting reads. I liked getting to see what life was like back then in that part of London. The writing, however, didn't really agree with me. Too many times it felt forced and pompous.

I had seen the tv series before reading the books, as well. So I kept having the tv-version of people and events in my head. Overall, I like the tv-version better.
