This book really sucked you in. I read it a while ago and as soon as I looked at the cover, I was back in the crazy world of Versailles and la magie. It's not your average historical novel. I think I wanted the story to continue; it stopped a little too soon for me, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

This book is an entertaining historical fiction with a bit of magic thrown in. The characters you are supposed to like are likable and the characters you're supposed to despise are, well, despicable. I had hoped for a few additional twists and turns (hence 4/5 stars) but I would recommend this to anyone who's looking to get lost for an afternoon.

It was honestly quite good, the book felt researched. The characters were well done. However it was a little bit too long and half of the novel is uneventful. The character of Seguin however was not well explained, he had the role of the villain, period. We didnt have any deep background. Also they kept saying 'pas de tout' to say 'not at all' and it's actually 'pas DU tout' in French. Overall I had a good time reading this novel and I might pick up the sequel.

I had a hard time getting through it and came very close a couple of time to DNFing it. It did get way better toward the end. I think the story would have benefited from being shorter and having some of the repetitive stuff removed, such as Camille's internal dialogue about Lazare. Overall, it was alright. The premise is more promising than the execution unfortunately.

Painfully generic with a doormat main character. At least the setting is nice, I guess...

It ticks all of the boxes for the perfect YA/crossover novel - magic, history, hardship and at the very core a perilous love story. It is also well-written, engaging and a great initiation into the magical world of Versailles. It will be great to revisit Camille and Lazare and see where their journey ahead lies.

This was interesting. I enjoyed the historical references and little bits of French culture that were woven in. I also enjoyed the way that magic was interlaced within the story. The relationships were dynamic, but some parts of the plot lines within these relationships progressed too slowly for my liking.

The story was pretty intriguing, if not incredibly infuriating, from what I managed to read, but the writing was just so fast, I have little desire to pick the book back up again anytime soon...
