Very soothing book to read! Not as many steps and plans as I would have liked, but some good ones at the end. Overall a wholesome book that makes you feel lighter reading it.

This was an intensely calming book. Focusing on the moment, keeping your emotions in check, and taking time to really listen, The Book of Ichigo Ichie suggests that in the midst of this fast-paced, consumer-based society, it is more than worth it to take a breath and honor this one moment. I tend to live in the future and the past, so this book was a great reminder to really just take it all in, right here and now. To try to find contentment, to not want for more. I think I'll be taking a lot of lessons from this book and applying them to my own life--the authors preach a kind of living and lifestyle that I myself want to achieve but am having a hard time doing, personally.
What I also appreciated about this book was their glimpse into other spiritualities and ways of living, showing that there's no "one way" to adhere to ichigo ichie, but in fact many different ways that intersect in order to create a zen, simplistic, and peaceful life.
I'd definitely recommend this to those who find enlightenment in Marie Kondo's works--find what sparks joy in your life and find that joy in a single moment.

The book felt very rushed and haphazard. There are nuggets of valuable information but none of the it really seems to connect or flow together and a lot of the chapters seem like filler. Having read Ikigai, and enjoyed the loving way the book was crafted, Ichigo Ichie, seems like a half hearted throwing together of a few key terms and then anecdotal evidence from a very strange amalgamation of people.

This rating is not meant to be a reflection of the ichigo ichie practice, because from what I gleaned it is a beautiful practice and I would like to learn more about it. Unfortunately, this book jumps from one thing to the next without going into depth and relies on western pop culture to help bridge the gaps. That alone would have earned it a three star rating however I was flabbergasted when it made the claim that children with developmental disabilities (including autism) just needed more physical affection and that could cure it! That is just not true and actively harmful! Also the author's really don't understand Einstein's relativity and clearly shouldn't be talking about it and passing it as fact. Those were the two pieces that I knew were 100% wrong and I wonder how many other tidbits were given the same treatment, stretched to fit the narrative.

This wasn’t as good as the other book about Ikigai. I felt the authors were repeating themselves multiple times throughout the book. But still it was great and I loved it!

"The meaning of ichigo ichie is something like this: What we are experiencing right now will never happen again. And therefore, we must value each moment like a beautiful treasure."
-Ichigo Ichie
This book deals with the most important yet a neglected topic, the importance of present moment. We actually talk about it a lot but not in the right way. But here, in this book you'd find the way of practicing Ichigo Ichie in your daily life.
The learnings from this book:
▶️ Don’t postpone special moments.
▶️ Do something you’ve never done before
▶️ Practice mindfulness
▶️ Notice coincidences
▶️ Make every gathering a party
▶️ If you don’t like what there is, make something different.
▶️ Be a hunter of special moments.
▶️ Celebrate imperfections.
▶️ Be your own friend.
▶️ Practice compassion
