The first book in this series, Catch a Ghost, ended with Tom choosing another partner in order to keep Prophet safe from his bad partner luck and Prophet staying away from Tom to keep him off the radar with his enemies. Seriously, in my head I knew that there would be a big, sexy reunion for these two when they finally got back together, but I wasn’t thrilled with them quitting each other so easily. I’m never happy when my two main characters walk away from each other. But I was willing to go the long haul with this series, that’s how sure I was that it would end up being a winner for me.
It’s been four months since Tom and Prophet split up. Tom is now partnered with Cope, training and running small missions with EE, but he can’t keep his mind off of Prophet. He sends him emails everyday, just trying to get him to understand why he chose another partner and hopefully get through to him. Prophet has officially quit EE and now takes black ops jobs that keep off the grid and away from home. Before taking yet another mission he decides to finally sit down and read all Tom’s emails. That’s when he makes the decision to stop running, from Tom and from what they could be together. So when he finds out that Tom’s beloved aunt is smack dab in the middle of the path of an oncoming hurricane he heads out with supplies and goes to help the only family Tom cares about.
Tom has the same idea, he disobeys orders and heads to Louisiana. That’s when these two collide, and I do mean that. Right in the middle of the wind and rain of a category 3 hurricane Tom and Prophet reunite in one of the hottest scenes I’ve read in a while. Holy hell, but these men are ravenous for each other after four months apart. Their lust is off the charts. While I might have been a little doubtful of their attachment to each other in book one, I was proven wrong after reading their reunion scene. I think time apart actually helped these men to terms about what they mean to each other.
While book one was all about this couple wading through Prophet’s past, this story goes back to Tom’s hometown and gets him and Prophet stuck in the middle of a murder investigation. All of Tom’s ghosts from his past come at these two fast and furious as they hide out in the bayou, wrestle alligators and finally come to realize that they are never going to be able to stay away from each other. Everything I wanted them to do in book one they finally do here. There are a lot of sexy times, they can’t seem to keep their hands and lips to themselves, but they also start to talk. There is a vulnerability between them now that wasn’t there before and it makes them a stronger couple. There is still so much that needs to be said, but at least they are opening up and learning to trust. I love the fact that there is always this need to keep the other safe. Whatever they have to do, whenever they have to do it, it’s just now they are finally figuring out that the best way to do that might be by staying together.
They are helped out by Mick and Blue ( how I missed their book I have no idea, but I plan on reading Free Falling next) and of course Cillian. While I’m not a huge Cillian fan, mainly because of all the flirting between him and Prophet, I am off the charts excited that he’s going to be paired up with another of Prophet’s old teammates, Mal. Their book, Dirty Deeds, should be out sometime in January. As you can tell, Ms. Jakes has sucked me into this world. I’m officially hooked. I love a good romantic suspense with strong male leads and you can’t get much stronger than these two.

Prophet stilled his fingers, then said, “I’m not, Tommy.”
“Not… what?”
“Pulling away. Just… not ready to go there.” He glanced over at the scar on his shoulder, then back at Tom. “But I’m here.”
He was, gloriously here.

Prophet frustrates me! Gah! It's like Tommy is practically begging him to let him in and while he wants to be with Tommy, he is still holding back! GRRRR
I'm done...I didn't want to be done...I could live in the totally fucked-up, emotionally exhausting, crazy-sexy-hot, sad and frustrating world that is Tommy and Prophet forever. I pray this is not the end. I refuse to accept that I won't get to continue the journey of them. Of course with cillian's story coming, I'm hopeful.
It was good to see Blue and Mick, however briefly.
I finally got some answers, the past is painful, and not fully revealed of course because...Prophet is one stubborn bastard. I say that with affection of course.
Love their interaction, love the honesty of it, even when they aren't being honest. Love how they can read each other, that they are both battling their demons which leaves them wishing they didn't feel the way they do for each other. LOVE it all...sigh...it'll be hard to read something else now...
Can't wait for the next one of course and will continue with this series.

Gosh these boys tire me out. What with natural disasters, their pasts, murders & being framed, they've barely got time for screwing each other's brains out and trying to push the other away to keep them safe. And yet somehow they manage all these things with a side order of banter.
Thankfully their relationship is on a more even keel than it was at the end of the first book.
One complaint I felt as though I missed a chunk of story toward the end when Prophet was painting. Also I really wanted Phrophet to get a dreamcatcher tattoo.
Do I go straight on to book 3 or read Dirty Deeds next?

Did I enjoy the first two books in this series? I did. Will i read the next two books? Yes for sure. But for those many people who have read a similar, well loved other series, I feel this falls quite a bit short for me. I do agree the second installment brought a richer element to the characters's pasts and their overall story. However they did not come close to the complex, fabulousness in showing the beautiful development and buildup of the two MC's of the Cut and Run series. Biased? Absolutely!

Long Time Gone picks up where Catch a Ghost left off. Tom is in Eritrea sending daily emails to [email protected], not getting any answers and bemoaning the belated fact that he could take better care of Prophet if he was with him instead of partnering with Cope to protect him from his Cajun Voodoo bad luck curse. Prophet is off doing black op jobs and sulking about the fact that Tom didn’t choose him as a partner; but luckily reads Tom’s gazillion emails the night before he decides to go major league dark – and ends up in NOLA to save Tom’s Aunt Della from the incoming hurricane. Also luckily Tom decides to disregard a direct EE order and also ends up in NOLA to take care of his aunt; leading to Prophet and Tom having quite the explosive reunion in the middle of the hurricane – apparently on the front lawn.
Tommy and Prophet have amazing chemistry, the sex is hot because the emotion behind it is intense – if not “classically” romantic – it’s clear these guys need each other, neither are accustomed to being so emotionally invested and vulnerable and while they don’t quite know what to do with it and how to maneuver it a lot of the time – they also know they don’t want to lose it. And they have the most entertaining banter.
As the hurricane passes Tommy and Proph are still in the bayou and of course shit starts to happen and Tom’s past comes barreling up to bite him on the ass with a vengeance. While Tom is being framed for murder he has no choice but to allow Prophet in and let him help solve the mystery from his tortured childhood (and in the process Prophet promises eventual reciprocation in letting T. help him with the mystery of John and issue with Sadiq) – Oh, and also learns he has a thing for alligator kink – seriously – it’s a thing.
