Gerwig's Little Woman is one of the best adaptions of all time but I would do anything to see the Polley version

Nothing about running in this book! An incredible book from Canadian actress, film maker and activist Sarah Polley. This is a collection of auto-biographic essays relating different trauma from her life, how they have impacted her throughout the years and her path to recovering from them. This is incredibly well written and the audio will also keep your attention going.
In the process of talking about the traumatic events that she has lived through, she also puts the finger on many societal and systemic issues such as child labor, the film industry, sexual abuse or healthcare.

The thoughtfulness, intelligence, and flow of Polley’s writing are wonderful and (as a skilled actress) she reads it quite well. Just excellent.

Excellent read...

A series of personal essays driving the perspective and experience of the author through some of the hardest defining moments of her life.

Extremely human and insightful, it gives also a glympse of the psyche of those around her.

A worthy read.

Really good. I feel like I need some time to process this before I can write anything coherent, but suffice it to say Polley writes REALLY well. These essays are like little models of the perfect creative non-fiction works: fearless, complete honest, yet deeply thoughtful and crafted. I wish I was still teaching CNF, because I'd like to use one or two of them as examples. Without knowing much about her, I've always liked what I thought I saw of Sarah Polley - her intelligence, her lack of time for the artifice of show-business - and these essays confirm my suspicions, as well as giving me a much greater sense of the traumas she experienced. (I am reminded that I've always wanted to see the autobiographical documentary she made about her family - this makes me want to see it even more).

Sarah Polley does an amazing job of reflecting on the event of her life and the major trends she sees. I love the essay structure. An incredible memoir.

4.5. I had never heard of Sarah Polley but this memoir came so highly recommended by a friend that I gave it a go. Wow wow wow, I was enthralled from the start. She has a masterful grasp of storytelling. I didn't want to stop listening to the audiobook, which the author narrates. This is a book I will recommend to others for years to come.
