Based on the title, I thought there would be more of a push & pull between the friend she’s been in love with forever and the new guy, but there wasn’t really?? I also felt bad for the new guy bc she was just trying to prove something with him at first. I also think we should retire fake dating where the MMC is obviously reluctant about the “fake” part & the FMC is too dense to realize he has very OBVIOUS feelings for her. I couldn’t do another 64% of that so… DNF.

I felt no connection to characters. The story TOLD me how they felt and why so often that I was never experiencing the characters. Felt like a summary of the book. If Im not actively rooting for the couple in a romance book then what's the point?

I was really looking forward to reading Between Lovers and Friends because of all the hype and reviews. But…it just didn’t wow me😬

Don’t get me wrong, there were definitely good moments, and I’m still curious to read more from this author. But overall, it didn’t quite meet my expectations.

It wasn’t the love triangle that kept me turning the pages, it was the deeper themes discussed throughout the story. The book touched on mental health, family dynamics, identity, and the role of social media, which I really appreciated.

Now let’s talk characters… Ezra? Absolutely not. He did not deserve Jo in the slightest. 🙅🏽‍♀️

But Mal and Jo? Now that’s the love story I showed up for! Who would’ve thought a random encounter could lead to such a genuine and beautiful connection? Mal was so sure about Jo from the start, and even though she had her guard up, he never gave up on her. Their conversations were real and raw, and I loved how they helped each other grow and heal. It wasn’t perfect, but their support for each other was everything.

This one won’t be going on my favorites list, but I did enjoy the emotional depth and the focus on healing and self-love.

I'm a fantasy girlie, but this romance book stole my heart ❤️.
