I like how she deals with the fall-out of her traumatic experience, and how dark magick came back to Widow's Vale. That being said, one star off because this book should have been called Dark Magick, and the previous should have gotten another title. Like, did you publisher not read the books before they settled on a title, Cate?

5th book in the Sweep series has Morgan recovering from book 4. Could another friend be not what he seems? Decent addition to the series but not the best.

This is the fifth book in the series and things really deviated from the first 4. It feels like a filler episode in a long TV series (not per se in a bad way).

Now the story arc of book 1-4 is wrapped up, the story needs to take a new approach, which was mainly about Hunter and Morgan getting to know each other more. Hunter becomes a little more likeable and we get to understand his motives more. And yet, I don’t buy their instant chemistry. So for a book that revolved mainly around these two characters and their relationship, it was not my favourite book and hence my 3 star rating.

I really enjoyed the plot beyond their relationship though. Morgan gets more experience with dark magic in her environment, which has heartbreaking consequences. I remember being so touched by the ending 10 years ago, and I still had the very same feelings this time around. They really deserved better <3

Other notable happenings in this book were:
- the Celtic rock band that played at Practical Magick. Truly a cornerstone of my personality. (I discovered 16 y/o me annotated the band’s name to correspond with my favourite Celtic rock band at the time)
- Morgan using her magic to fight homophobes and protect her queer family members. We stan a true ally <3
- Her mom’s reaction and love when Morgan told her about the breakup. Made me miss my own mom ;;

So yeah, average rating for a filler episode! Not bad but not outstanding. Good time though!

I can tell why I stopped reading this series.
Morgan is so whinny. this series had such potential.
I think I'm going to still read a couple more in this series before I give up.

Another fantastic book by Cate Tiernan. I love this series. I've always been curious about wicca and this is a fun way to learn about it. The characters are great and I can't wait to see what's going to happen next. Its a battle of good vs evil..which will Morgan choose? Can't wait to read #6!
