Just what I needed this week. I DNF'd one book and then rage-read another I REALLY wanted to DNF. This was what I needed to avoid a slump. It's no masterpiece, but the tropes and vibes were just what I wanted.
✅ Noah "Daddy Bread Baker" Barden was everything. Ugly duckling glow up. Ambitious until his family needed him. Eco-friendly and thoughtful about his impact. Rescues dogs and takes care of a menagerie of farm animals. Stand up Uncle to his practically orphaned niece. In love his entire life with one woman and willing to do anything to have even a small piece of her. Literally wants to devour her in any and every way. Jesus this man ruins all men. 10/10
✅ Gennie is one of my favorite types of characters, the quirky-often-misunderstood-and-precotious child that is just a delight. Who wouldn't love to watch a foul-mouthed, pirate wannabe, essentially shove her uncle with his high school love? 10/10
✅ Shay was a relateable lovely FMC. She shone a little less brighter compared to Gennie and Noah, but I think that is a good thing. She was accepting of them and just trying to find her way and it worked well in contrast.
✅ Grandma Lollie is the MVP who is RIP. A cunning matchmaker from beyond the pale. In real life, her scheme would be something I'd be disgusted by. Here I was rooting! Though some insight into her motivation in the will would have been nice? Like a letter to go along with the will. Like we didn't get much about Lollies decision.
❌ Noah was perfect except for one eensy teensy thing. I felt like he had no reason to be mad at Shay. As the book continued we found out that Noah left first and Noah was the one who stopped responding to text messages. For him to then hold even the tiniest of grudges against Shay for never I think it one point he acknowledges that he was being irrational coming back was delulu. But I think at one point he acknowledges that he was being irrational.
❌ Love Shay, but this girl was so oblivious. Like I understand some oblivion, but there was a point where I was like how do you not understand how obsessed this man is with you? Like I know the trauma of feeling like nobody really wants you and everyone leaves you. But Daddy Bread Baker was being super obvious my girl

Tropes: single parent (H is raising his niece), small town, he falls first, second chance, friends to lovers, neighbors, marriage of convenience
4.5 stars
After the death of her step-grandmother, Shay finds out she is to inherit her her tulip farm, but there are two conditions. One, she must move back to Friendship, Rhode Island, and two, she has to be married within the year. Which would've been fine, if she hadn't just been left at the alter by her fiancé. Noah Barden had been the shy and awkward high school student with a secret crush on the beautiful and popular girl. Years later, Noah is focused on his farm and raising his niece, his old crush the furthest thing from his mind. But when Shay shows back up in town after all these years, Noah can't help but come to her rescue.
This book was so fucking cute. Oh my god. A big strong farmer who has been obsessed with our heroine since high school?? Sign me tf up. I LOVED Noah's character. He was just the sweetest thing and had such a big heart. He loves and cares so much for his niece. I was obsessed with him being the shy guy in high school and Shay being the popular girl. Usually it's the other way around so it was really fun to see it this way. I loved how much this man was a simp for Shay. Any little compliment she would make and he was blushing. IT WAS SO WHOLESOME. There was so much chemistry between Shay and Noah and I was biting my nails waiting for them to get together. Gennie, Noah's niece, was so cute and so funny. They were quite the little family. Such a great read!

Unrequited teenage crush, marriage of convenience, single dad (guardian), friends to lovers - this book is trope-heavy, but it just missed the mark for me.
It was hard to believe that the hero was so deeply in love with the heroine (who he knew for only a couple of years in high school), and would basically spend his adult life waiting and hoping for her to show up in the small town they both vowed to leave ASAP after graduation.
The heroine is a curvy kindergarten teacher (tummy rolls were mentioned more than once) with a penchant for huge, dangly, kitschy earrings. She's coming out of a bad break-up after being left at the altar. The MCs enter a marriage of convenience to fulfil the terms of her late step-grandmother's will, and thus allow her to inherit the family farm.
The hero has undergone a metamorphic glow-up since high school and is now a hot farmer struggling with the responsibility of guardianship of his 6-year-old, potty-mouthed niece.
While all this would usually kick goals with me, this just didn't feel quite right, chemistry-wise. Maybe because of the heroine's indecision about the relationship and her self-doubt.
This book contains multiple steamy love scenes.
