Eh...

Well, I learned a lot more than I thought I would about cows. Which is a good thing. I've always liked cows, and now I have more respect for them. But it was a little too much about cows. I don't really feel like I got to know the author behind this book. Yes, this was about Sarala, the milk lady. But you would see glimpses of the author's thoughts and feelings herself, especially after an untimely death. There are also a lot of things just kind of thrown out there--drinking cow urine, for one--that it seems are just for shock value more than adding to the story, in a way. It was also kind of all over the place. Largely interesting and enjoyable, to be sure, but just a little too scattered.

Dude. Who knew cows could be so fucking fascinating? I spent almost as much time googling images of native Indian cows as I did reading. A near perfect blend of memoir and cultural and historical facts.
