This book made me ugly cry at 3am. I didn't start it expecting it to be a 5-star, but the second half made it worthy of the 5 stars. It proves that being shown and feeling love and affection towards others has a huge impact over someone. Lack of it turns you into a villain who is just a victim.
Although I am not a fan of horror, I enjoyed this book and I didn't find it "scary". I love myths and stories inspired by them and real life stuff. And now, after finishing it, I do understand why did it pass the time test.
I truly am happy for Christine, but my heart breaks for the poor phantom. His story proves that no one is truly bad and behind every "evil" action hides a broken soul in need of love.

I finally finished this book! It took me way to long!
But I think it took so long because I just read older books/classics was slower because of how people wrote back then.
Anyway, I think [b:The Phantom of the Opera|480204|The Phantom of the Opera|Gaston Leroux|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327867727l/480204._SY75_.jpg|2259720] is a pretty good book. Some of the characters were extremely annoying, namely Raoul and Christine. Their way of thinking is just in no way logical. Christine is extremely naive to a point where it ruins her chances of survival, and Raoul is a huge "niceguy". But I think both characters are ideals of some kind; Christine the pure beauty and Raoul the chivalrous young man. I think the character I liked the best was the Persian, he at least seemed somewhat like a normal person. I really don't want to get into the phantom because I could go on forever.
Everything is very overdramatic, and most of the time it works. I quite liked the framing of the story. The whole thing with Leroux investigating and reporting this "true story" is funny.

Great plot but found it a bit difficult to read due to it being a classic.
Think I may prefer the musical/ movie.
All the names were kind of confusing too.
