I'm a sucker for time travel, but most of this story was a time loop and I got a little tired of the loop. The love story was cute, but not especially compelling.

I never got very excited, but I appreciated the way it ended.

A very enjoyable entry in the time loop/"Groundhog Day" sort of genre, with a sweet romance to keep it going. The characters were quirky and realistic (and smart), the plot never dragged, the science wasn't eyeroll-inducing. The ending was hopeful and no loose ends. 4.25 stars.

Thanks to the publisher via NetGalley for providing the ARC.

Maybe I’m too dumb but I did not get this book lol. I did do some parts audio only when I usually do both together the entire time, so I must have missed some important things.

re-read immediately, novel concept, unpredictable, really engaging

This story is told in third person dual point of view in the beginning alternating between Carter and Marianna. I really enjoyed the setup and premise of this story. As the story begins, Carter is aware that he is living in a time loop and is taking notes of all the things that have happened and the various deviations in order to try to change the outcome and stop the loop. In this iteration, he begins to pull Marianna into his confidence. There are lots of pastries involved. Initially I enjoyed these characters but I felt like their development never reached beyond this level of knowledge.

Somewhere along the way this part of the story evolves into something else and that’s where the plot lost my interest. Marianna takes over the story and Carter just sort of drops out which never really made sense to me. I didn’t really understand why he went from having an eidetic memory to forgetting. I also didn’t understand the point of experimenting with time travel if the scientists were so afraid of creating paradox that they hid for the duration. By the end, I just got lost in the narrative and had no idea which iteration was doing what and I felt like I was given conflicting information on the way the different characters were moving through time.

In the end, I felt the plot lost its momentum once Carter’s memory devolved and it just never recaptured my interest. Great premise but the follow through just didn’t live up to my expectations.

A Quantum Love Story is the best time travel/time loop book I’ve read in a while. I enjoyed every minute reading this book, flying through the pages.

Mariana and Carter are stuck in a 4-day time loop. A neuroscientist and technician, both fish out of water when it comes to quantum theory, they team up to find a way out. And what a great team they make. I loved these characters and I caught myself thinking about them when I wasn’t actively reading and even had dreams about their story.

Mike Chen expertly weaves a tale that is heartfelt, quirky and philosophical. It has fun twists that I did not see coming. It is science fiction with a bit of romance. Reflecting on the story, I think it’s about love in the broadest sense: romantic love, the love of friendship and self-love. As the story wrapped up, there was only one thing I wanted: more. The story ends full of hope and possibility and it’s beautiful but gah I needed more.

Thank you to Harlequin Books and NetGalley for the ARC. A Quantum Love Story is out now!
