I'm going to put a disclaimer in. This review has nothing to do with this story. But I just wanted to let you know that when I searched for a hockey romance on Amazon, this was one of the results this is This story is not a hockey romance. This book is actually a ski racing romance This is a second Chance Romance you do get to see the beginning of their they were younger, but it isn't flipping chapters between present and past, they are memories within present time. Which I really enjoy. This author is New me. I found her through TikTok. This book is also available through Kindle Unlimited (KU) Subscription
This was such an interesting read! I loved that they both admitted to their wrongs and that it was Jackson, the FMC, doing the groveling at the end!! Nate is such a good MMC!

I was SO invested in this book. The tension was wild, and it was such a fun read. The only thing I hated was that in the end, when Jax and Nate both walk away from each other (albeit unintentionally), there wasn’t a lot of character development or communication that could have happened. After everything they went through, that would’ve been the perfect opportunity for the author to show how they both have changed. Instead, Jax declared her feelings in front of a large group of people, and didn’t explain or apologize to Nate privately like she should have. The characters repeated their past mistakes, and they shouldn’t have. They’re not healthy together, at least not right now. They have a long ways to go in their relationship and I feel like it wasn’t fair to quicken the pace of the book for a HEA, when we needed at least 50 more pages. Even though I realize how unhealthy Nate and Jackson’s relationship is, and I’m disappointed with the author, I somehow really enjoyed and liked this book. I’m close to giving it a 4.0, I’m just not quite there yet. I think it all evens out to a 3.75 when factoring in how abrupt and chaotic the end was.

I really enjoyed the story, the way they reconnected. The only thing that stopped this from being 5 stars was the fact that Jackson never really owned up to her part in why her relationship with Nate ended the first time.

I loved Nate’s devotion to repairing his relationship with Jackson, but their god awful communication skills drove me bonkers all the way through the third act break up. Otherwise, a pretty good book even if I don’t know squat about skiing!
