This book was better than I thought it would be. Admittedly the main girl character annoyed the crap out of me even though some of her behavior was understandable based on the situation she was in. But some of it... Really wasn't (more in the spoiler filled portion of this review). Towards the later half of the book I think she became less annoying to me.

Despite how annoyed I was at how some things were happening, the book really got me thinking. Which I think is great! And some of the annoyances throughout were excusable due to the situation everyone was in, which again just got me thinking about how I think I would act under those circumstances.

I did guess a few things early on but overall, I think the book was pretty good. Definitely better than I had thought it would be and an interesting take on the situation. (trying to be vague to not give anything away, lol)

Spolier stuff:
Spoiler
Okay, so one of the things that irritated that crap out of me was that during the season where all the feeders hump each other like rabbits.. Our main lady insists on staying out amongst the chaos despite warnings of it not being safe.. And then she is surprised when she gets attacked.

Also she had the bad habit of cutting people off with outbursts before they got a chance to explain things to her. I get you're freaking out cause you don't know whats going on, but seriously, if you're angry that you don't have the answers maybe you should let people answer your questions and then get mad if they don't..

I did think that the main girl character was described in an overly child like way, which seemed weird to me. Like I started off thinking she was like four or five so imagine my surprise when we find out she is closer to 17.. (didn't really take away from the story I just thought it was weird)

I did really like the struggles the elder/eldest had in regards to leadership and the comparison of earth and the ship. The question of what causes chaos in a society and the moral dilemma of denying your people the ability to live for fear that they would rather die if they knew. Personally I feel strongly behind the saying "it is better to have loved and lost then to have never loved at all"

Their is more but I have to get ready for work... So Ill end it saying that the book got me thinking and because of that I think it was a good book.

I don't know if I'm just harder on books than a lot of people, or if I just haven't read any really good books for awhile, but I find myself giving a lot of 2 and 3 star reviews. That's not to say the books are terrible. According to the Goodreads scale, 2 is "it was ok" and 3 is "liked it". I'm going to try going back to more formatted reviews, though, because it feels like nearly every book I read, I have nothing to say. Hopefully it helps.

The Plot: The main female character (I've already forgotten her name) gets frozen, along with her mom and dad, in order to travel to a far distant planet. She is woken up early, and realizes she is alone in a bizarre new world (on the spaceship). She meets Elder, who will be the next new leader of the ship, and together they try to figure out what exactly is going on.

Why I read it: I can't even remember. It's a YA book, and I read a lot of those.

The Characters: I didn't love either of the two main characters. I know Elder was meant to be naive, because he had grown up only on the ship, and was taught certain things since birth, but it didn't make him very endearing to me. I wish there had maybe been more side characters, because I found the two main characters rather dull.

The Setting: There's not a whole lot to explore here, because the book takes place on an enclosed ship. I really wish there had been more. I don't know if it was just me, but there seemed to be a lot more interesting things that could have been going on on the ship.

Who should read this: I'm not sure. Maybe fans of YA science fiction. Although I like that genre, and didn't care for this. Fans of space travel, maybe?

Final thoughts: This looks to be the first in a series, and although I didn't really care much for this one, I think the world could be expanded in interesting ways. I don't know if I would continue on or not.

Cover thoughts: The cover is interesting, but doesn't really tell anything about the story.

When I first started Across the Universe I didn't think I would like it as much as I frexing did. It's not my normal read and wasn't sure I would be in to a "space" book, but my opinion has changed tremendously. I loved the world created on this space ship. It was so unique and unbelievably creative. I'm dying for the next one. I have so many questions running through my mind as to what may happen next.

I want to read the next one because It's going to be awesome
even I've loved the book it wasn't the best one so... it's only a 4 from 5 stars and 7 to 10 points

I've never really been big into sci-fi as a genre before but, I have to admit, the cover and then the synopsis drew me to this book and I just had to read it, and I'm really glad I did.
At first, for me, this book took some getting used to. Never having read a book like this before, I found it hard to imagine the setting; really, a spaceship that's big enough to hold Disney World?! But as the story progressed, the more I got into it and would now like to go live on Godspeed.
I think certain aspects of the plot were a tad predictable
Spoilermy brain was shouting "IT'S ORION!" from the get-go
, but overall it was a really enjoyable, exciting read, and I loved the tension between Elder and Eldest, and then mystery~ and twist regarding the Plague. I'm really looking forward to reading the sequel to see how things turn out on Godspeed and how Elder and Amy's relationship will develop.

I think I have this book to thank for a possible newfound interest in sci-fi :3
