I really wanted to love Shmutz. I picked this book out because I thought it was interesting to see how Hasidic Judaism and sex intertwined, especially since sex is such a taboo subject in Hasidic religion and culture. The overall story was an absolute bore, and there was lack of character development too. There were times throughout reading Shmutz where I wanted to DNF this book, but I somehow pushed through and finished it. Shmutz is one of my least favorite books of 2022.

overall a wonderful exploration on Fitting In and Desire and Shame and several topics that i rarely see discussed, much less together. but hgh what was the ending
is the addiction over what was the point of raizl not liking the therapist the weird power dynamic at work?

edit: ive thought more about the ending and it just makes me mad
