If you had to ask me, My Last Duchess and Wilde In Love are the only saving grace of the Wildes. Eloisa James seemed unrestrained in writing the whirlwind romance of Ophelia & the Duke, hilariously poking fun at the uptight nobles. I don't see that anymore. Nor do I discern any substance in the plot. Where even is the plot?

Can't fault Betsy or Viola for rejecting Thaddeus - he's so *excuse me while I yawn, unappealing, for the lack of better words. Joan makes sure to drill into our minds that nobody likes her - guess I'm nobody then. Her whole personality is built on the “I am not like other girls” and “Nobody likes me”.

Not to mention the non existent chemistry between the two. Heck, even Otis seemed to pair much better with Joan than Thaddeus ever did.

Cute story although unrealistic (she wouldn’t be running around in pants). Lots of respect, consent, and helping each other with parental abandonment

The first half of this book was stellar and I was so looking foreword to a real enemies to lovers. But the second half was really weird and strangely paced. In the end they were hardly enemies and the tension wrapped up super quickly with still half the book to go. I had to skim the end bc Thaddeus’s family drama was a snooze.

Wow, this was way to long... the editor should have done a better job editing and the plot was very weak. The writing is good though :)

Joan wants desperately to act on the stage, preferably in a male role. Her father agrees to allow her to do this at home in the castle with the troupe of actors that stops there every year, so she chooses Hamlet and convinces her best friend Otis to play Ophelia.
Thaddeus has been a friend of the family since he was a young boy at Eton, he's courted 2 of the Wilde daughters without success so far, but he'd never consider courting Joan, it just wouldn't do for a Duke's wife to be illegitimate, even if her father claims her and loves as his own anyways.
These 2 spark, she actually manages to make him laugh, which isn't like him, and he's so protective of her it's alpha-dorable. He calms her down by helping her fulfill her dreams and she cracks his perfectly controlled shell just enough that you get to meet the man behind the title.
There is the usual family drama, because let's face it, they're Wilde's by blood or marriage which is always entertaining as well.
I wonder if the youngest Wilde's will get their own books or if this is where it ends?? :)
