slightly slower than the rest but entertaining nonetheless. all seven demigods finally together felt like a cast of sitcom characters except with a lot of tensions. i loved watching them all interact and work together. the ending definitely redeemed this book because WHAT

I loved Piper in the first book, but oh man I did not like her POVin this book—she was soo whiny 😫 and unlike the Piper from book one!
Honestly, I get why Athena was so angry—she was the goddess of wisdom only to get upstage by a male in Rome! I too would crash out.
Can’t believe I had to wait for the next book as a kid, that ending was sad!!

This was a reread. And I'm so glad that it was and I didn't have to wait a whole year for the next one to come out after that cliffhanger. I mean I lived through that when I was in high school and this book came out the first time. But I'm so glad I don't have to relive it.
Rick ran into the problem that he had too man characters that he couldn't build a world a where they interacted more and bonded over more than the task on hand and trauma. I think it was lacking a lot just normal teenage conversations. Or if they did it was done in a humorous way that made the main male characters seems dumb or extremely immature which for someone of the characters didn't fit with what we knew about them. And then there were allusions to interactions, like Annabeth and Piper eating each others breakfasts that was mentioned once but never continued on through the book. It was like 'why even include it? other then to mention that they new each other from CHB." I know that there was time that passed between Annabeth and the TLH characters but still it didn't feel like any of them had bonded at all.
Some things that I did like was the few Percy and Jason working together moments. I wish we truly got more of that. Frank and Leo had their weird competition thing going on. Coach Hedge taking the spotlight anytime he was mentioned. Reyna being a queen when everyone else treated her like disposable garbage. The mutual disdain of Octavian by anyone who met him.
