This book completely and perfectly captures my entire state of mind, to a point that it's kind of scary and concerning. I don't really know what to do about it.

my review reflects only my personal reading experience (how i felt while reading it; how easy or hard it was to get through; whether or not i was in the right headspace for it; etc.) of this book and not necessarily the content

This is another of those projects that walks "the fine line between clever and stupid".

About 80% of it is drivel.

10% of it is actually disturbing and/or upsetting.

But then.... there is the other 10%. The 10% where I completely understand what he's trying to communicate and it's funny and absurd and genius.

Shame it's padded out with so much drivel.

Lovers of Shrigley may moan that I just didn't get it. Maybe that's fair. My thoughts are that if you have to explain the joke... it won't be as funny. Similarly, if the message is so ambiguous that it doesn't speak to me, I'm not going to pretend that I understand it just so I don't look like a philestine!

My two favourites were the "Don't look down" (yup, giant penis) and the note about being a slave to your own nonsense. I like my Shrigley in greeting card format best.

A bit of absurdist art to cheer you up. Some days I like it, other days not so much. I guess I’m ambivalent about it. Some bit do give perspective. Drawing calms you down etc

I had never heard of David Shrigley before, but I was browsing my favourite book store in Brisbane, and I couldn't avoid seeing this book. I mean, it is BRIGHT pink.

I love it. It is a simple book that doesn't take itself seriously by any measure. It is clever. It is kind. It is cheeky.

And it currently takes pride of place as the first book on the top shelf of my bookcase.
