Not enough sciencing it out, I say. And come on, like a girl whose problem is clearly described as a case of mentally induced overeating, I say there aren't enough alternative avenues explored before they go right into permanent stomach-pouching.
Maybe a little too glamorous, and would it kill them to put an obviously bigger girl on the cover? I'm at a healthy weight and I have more chins than that model. Sheesh.

Not really great but not terrible either. This book was just kinda "eh" and it wrapped up much too quickly with everything in a nice little bow. Not my type of book
Loved the internal dialogue with Skinny, the voice in her head who tells her how fat and ugly she is.

Ever Davies memiliki tubuh yang mudah gemuk, metabolism thing. Dulu bahkan ia bersama sang Ibu, menjalani program diet agar tubuh mereka agar memiliki berat badan normal.

Picik banget emang tuh Skinny!
Well, novel ini termasuk contemporary YA yang cepat dibaca habis. Cocok buat yang butuh bacaan ringan namun tetap memberi pelajaran.

At midnight, Cinderella ran away from the ball, leaving behind her glass slipper. The doors swing slowly closed behind me, shutting out the sound of the party, and I realize I’ve lost something far more important than a shoe.

A great book for the YA demographic. I loved all the image-rich descriptions and raw emotion packed into every sentence of the book. The main character is a great one to identify with for anyone who feels deficient in some way (so - everyone). It's great to see a character have the kind of guts she does in a book like this.
My biggest complaint was the narration in the audiobook version. Every female voice besides the main character's sounded like a vapid Valley Girl, which isn't how real young women sound. The author was trying to lend depth even to the most empty-headed characters in the story, but the reader lost of a lot of this. The book takes place somewhere in Texas, and at one point it's stated that the older stepsister, a student at the University of Kansas, is only 3 hours away. Maybe in a plane - but there is no airport in Lawrence, KS, and unless they were flying directly out of Houston or Dallas to KC, which the setting leads me believe they would be driving to - but hey, these are the things you get hung up on when you live in central TX and want to fly home to KC or drive 12 hours.
The Cinderella allegory was a little heavy-handed, but the author makes no bones about the allegory. Minor complaints, I know. The story is a great tale of losing yourself and finding it all over again.

A clean book for the 11-18 YA crowd. Predictable, but a good story. Ever is 15 and over 300 pounds and constantly listening to "Skinny", a voice that tells her what others must be thinking of her. I did appreciate a book with an overweight protagonist, as most YA fiction doesn't have overweight 'good' characters, much less the main character. I like that teenagers will be able to read into what it's like being overweight and self-conscious (if they don't already know what that feels like). I wish the cover featured a 'plumper-faced' girl, but I guess it's all about marketing, right?
Ok first I have to point out that the cover does not do this book justice. Without a doubt the cover model should be a "real" girl, not some gorgeous model who won the genetics lottery.
more to come closer to the release date.

3.5? 3.75? Not sure.
Anyways, I still liked this book. It kind of opened my eyes. But, like Brielle, the MC's stepsister, said, all she thought about was herself.I felt like this book focused too much on appearances. But I haven't really gone through what the MC has, so idk. Maybe I would've done the same thing as her, if I'd been in the same circumstances. >.> Considering the fact that it doesn't take much to make me feel very self conscious, haha. I could relate to Ever a lot on that part.
I'm guessing Skinny is figurative? That she assumed all of those voices? She did have a reason for that, but it's kind of like the "unreliable narrator" thing - you just see it the way the MC chooses to see/say it. Maybe the classmates or the people who interacted with her thought more than a bunch of derogatory thoughts. Sometimes I wonder how they actually thought of her. Or they could've all been jerks. The torture of wondering...
At first, I didn't want her to do the surgery. I was hoping she'd back out and lose weight through exercising and dieting, without the surgery. But then, everyone needs a push factor - and I don't mean just losing weight. At first no one minds doing what they have to do. But a few days later, a few weeks later you start slowing down or give up. Add in a push factor, and it gets done in no time. For Ever, she wanted to lose weight. The surgery made her start dieting and exercising.
So, yeah, this book opened my eyes in a lot of ways.
And something totally irrelevant-

It's over midnight, so I might be rambling. Also, I think I used too many "maybe"s? Sorry.
This book inspired me so much that I wrote a speech about it... And presented it in front of my entire class...
I really enjoyed the audiobook! One of my best friends had weight loss surgery and I feel like I know a little bit more about her journey and the mental exhaustion and battle she's been through and continues to go through. This book was really well written and written by an author who has gone through the surgery herself. I highly recommend this book!
