This book was FANTASTIC! I absolutely love dystopian books, and this one filled that need. It’s dark and can get a little too real at times, but it always keeps you guessing. I would absolutely read another book by Bazterrica that dives more into this absolutely bonkers world she built.

Lots of trigger warnings for this book. I have never read a book so viciously horrible and also disgustingly good at the same time. If you are squeamish I don't recommend picking up this book, while it made me want to throw up I couldn't put it down. I would only recommend this to certain people. It's so messed up, I don't really have words for it.

this book was… an experience.

I went in expecting it to be really bad. Really graphic, gory and hard to read. And up until the 50% mark, I was finding myself surprised that it wasn’t *that* bad. Sure it’s cannibalism and factory farming humans but it’s a cold, dystopian critique of humanity’s depravity, and wasn’t just gore for the sake of gore. And, the main character was someone you could empathize with.

But then he did THAT.

And then the rest of the book fell apart. Suddenly, there were random gore scenes being inserted for no reason other than gore. The very last page had me close the book and stare at my ceiling. And then start searching for a new book to read as a palate cleanser immediately.

Genuinely would have been a better book without the rape and unnecessary gore. There was plenty of disturbing material without those!!

Boring MC, boring plot. I liked the ending but that's it. The translation was also hard to follow at times. Weirdly rap*y too

I finished Tender Is the Flesh last night, and I feel stunned. I'm not sure how I'll end up rating it, but I can completely understand why some readers might hate it, especially the ending. Sometimes it's difficult to face ourselves in the mirror. I'll come back to this review in a couple weeks/months.
