This book felt very different than the first book, and for a while I was even questioning whether there was a book in between that I had missed. The story is much more developed but seems quite detached from the original concept. I strongly disliked how much "destiny" played in this story, how everything felt "right" and "familiar". It got old and cliche really fast.

However disjointed it all felt with new love interest included, I liked the adventure and movement (at first it felt slow, but I think that is a side effect of first person) and am looking forward to the next book.

Steady and continuous pacing without being meandering and insubstantial like some middle books of trilogies can feel. Although there was lots happening it did still feel somewhat like a bridging book, but without losing interest along the way. Some aspects were a little lacking, however overall I still enjoyed it.

I liked it quite a bit better than I remember liking the first book in the series. But by the end, Zink's writing style got kind of irritating for some reason.

I must say, I did like this one better than the first. There was a lot more action and danger, which I loved. But there was a lot more romance, which I didn't like that much. I can't wait to read the third and final book!

I thought this book was so much better than the first one (and I never think that)! The plot was faster paced even though it did start off a little but slow. I love how new characters were included in this one and the growth of other characters, although I believe we could have seen a bit of a stronger lea rather than her relying on Demitri. Well, Demitri! Your dark, mysterious stranger that turns out to be good ( at the moment as you can't trust anyone in this book). I thought some of the things happening were quite predictable. Overall, I am looking forward to see how it concludes in the next novel, and hopefully see more plot as they didn't make that much progress as I would have liked. One thing that I would have liked to see was a bit more on Alice, maybe a chapter on just her and her interaction with rhe souls and seeing her powers grow? I think that would have been interesting, to see more of the 'evil' twins mind.

Definitely a filler book. I'm still going to read the last book, but idk.
