I don't know why but this just never grabbed me. It was cute but just didn't hold my interest, despite Soneela Nonkani's superb narration.

If I took a shot for each adjective used by Sam to describe Layla's body, I'd be drunk 5 pages into them meeting for the first time.

Never sure whether to round up or down, but 2.5 stars.

Overall, I had 2 main complaints with this book. First, how overtly sexual Sam's longing was, especially as Desai has written his parts with so much of a man's lens. And second, this book is clearly not written for an Indian audience because there was just so much cultural explanation and context being provided for the reader and definitions of various food items.

Beyond that, it was an easy read and I enjoyed it enough, especially as their relationship continued to develop and the yearning became less crass to witness. Doubt I'd actively look up the sequel but I wouldn't reject it if I came across it.

Sigh, I love these books so much. Layla and Sam are sharing/fighting over an office space, Sam is trying to get revenge for his sister against her abusive ex-husband, Layla's family owns the restaurant downstairs - everyone is basically in a state of arrested development despite their best efforts to move forward. Layla's father is in the hospital, but had set up a list of potential suitors for his daughter, so she and Sam play a game to find her perfect match and the loser has to leave the office. Sure, some conversations could be had, especially at the end (BIG OL MISUNDERSTANDING at the unexpected office party because Sam's business partner is the WORST).

I maybe loved this one a teensy bit less than the previous one, but just barely. Slightly less open-door. Still totally delightful and stayed up way too late reading it.

ugh idk.

Up until half way I was loving it and had a 3 star rating in mind. However after the half way point I was bored and the plot became choppy and confusing. I was no longer entertained so that brings it to a 2 for me, 3 star books usually arent good but at least they are entertaining.

Also Layla deserves better, this man fucks up time and time again and SHE is the one in the end who pulls them back together??????????????????????????????? no.

What Layla did at the end was cute but Sam did not deserve it.
