3.5 stars. I liked it enough to finish the 900+ pages but Follett's books are starting to feel formulaic.

This whole series is so good. Don’t just stop after “Pillars”

Harder to relate to the characters than the others in the series. Not all the decisions made seemed in character and a risk was taking shifting the tense of the story from third to first person

Oh my goodness. This book is the perfect conclusion to this 'series', and it's also the perfect Renaissance book. The mix between real and fake was a wonderful blend that struck the right chord throughout the whole book. While it can be read alone, I decided to read the other two book first, which for me enhanced this book's experience. There are some references that are better understood after reading The Pillars of the Earth and World Without End , but overall, still a solid stand alone book.

It was such an epic ride. I feel a range of emotions. I fell in love with the characters and their stories, and I hated some of them with a passion. It was so satisfying yet painful to watch them live their remarkable lives and then meet their end. Ken Follett is a master storyteller. I am definitely going to look into some of his other works. I did not have high expectations when I started this book for my English class, but it turned out to be a magnificent journey. All in all, "A Column of Fire" was a wonderful historical fiction!
