Another excellent entry from Connelly. I devoured this on a plane ride from the East to West Coast.
Per usual, there are a variety of intersecting cases--the first being a rape case that Ballard and her Cold Case team are working through familial DNA, but which keeps surprising them. Then Ballard gets her badge, gun, and ID stolen, and is unwilling to report the theft for fear of her repercussions to her job. When her attempt to track them down gets dicey, she turns to her friend, Harry Bosch. And, lastly, speaking of Bosch, we see lots of his daughter, Maddie, when Ballard brings the young cop on the Cold Case squad and learns she had an ulterior motive for wanting to join.
The writing is crisp and descriptive as always. Every Connelly book, especially with Bosch, just seems so realistic and holds my interest from start to finish. While I have trouble emotionally with Bosch aging, I love Ballard and enjoy seeing more of the younger Maddie Bosch. This is a taut, suspenseful, and enjoyable mystery.

Another fantastic police procedural
I once again enjoyed Renée Ballard as the MC; the narrator does a great job as usual. Plus Titus Welliver continues to read Harry Bosch’s lines!
As usual, the cases were great; though I did want a little more out of the end of the main case

Connelly surpassed himself in this one - with three plotlines running in parallel. This is a typically strong detective thriller, with good character work and story-craft. Renee Ballard takes the lead here, and that felt pretty natural too.
