The premise of this was so interesting to me, but when I started reading, I felt like ultimately nothing happened. Just as I was getting invested in a character or two, the perspective would jump and it was jarring. Good enough to finish but not for me.

For much of the novel, you feel adrift without any solid anchor point which can be frustrating. However, if you're willing to be patient, you'll find a well-crafted story that explores grief, loneliness, curiosity, and family. Also, if you're a fan of the Mountain Goats, it's a must-read.
I really wanted to like this book. it started out very good but I lost interest around part 3 and it was a struggle to continue. I'm going to be honest and say that I skimmed the last 2 parts because at that point I just wanted it to be over. this definitely didn't go where I hoped and wanted it to go.
This book started off so great and then it just slowly went down hill. It had such potential of being a great horror novel but turned out to be something completely different. With that being said, this was still a great book with great writing. I hope John is able to write more with his busy schedule.
Added this book to the DNF pile at 40% in. I don’t care if you told me this book was worth it in the end. It was god-awfully dreadfully boring. There was miles of backstory that was both boring and seemingly unnecessary (but then again I didn’t finish it so who knows). The characters were mildly written so I didn’t care for any of them. The plot could’ve been decent & I liked the writing style, but by god this author needed to get to the point.
