To say I enjoyed this book is an extreme understatement. I'm honestly wishing it was longer just so I could enjoy the world and romance a bit longer! Mary delivers the perfect combination of chemistry, humor, adventure, intrigue, and of course romance. Rapunzel is a princess who finds herself unwilling to be a pawn in her father's scheming and decides to join forces with the dragon terrorizing her kingdom. Together, she and the scaly fiend concoct a grand scheme that would make Robin Hood jealous. She is no longer the damsel in distress but has rather become the damsel of distress, and even calls herself the Feral Princess. But how long can she keep the scheme going? And how long before her intriguing squire, the only man who can beat her at chess, comes to her rescue? Rapunzel's Gambit will have you laughing, sniffling, and kicking your heels with glee while butterflies fly through your stomach.

I think this would be a great book to read to kids. It wasn't very deep, but was a very fun read with a plot twist on your typical Rapunzel story. Clean all around with some romance and humor that was nice.

Mary Mecham comes through once more with her damsel that distresses others! Princess Rapunzel is full of wit and ideas and cunning. So of course she runs off with the dragon and starts swindling the wealthy nobles in order to take her of her kingdom. Pollox the dragon and Rapunzel have the BEST banter and humor! Their dynamic is perfection - and it’s made all the more vivid through the audiobook narrated by Talon David (available on Audible and YouTube!). The twists and turns will keep you gasping and giggling. Such a fun story!

I loved this retelling of Repunzel! It was a wonderful take on an old story! Repunzel is a smart woman, but she is also manipulative. When her father makes a decree for her hand for whoever slays the dragon, she decides to take her future into her own hands.
I loved the humor of this whole story. Rapunzel and Pollox had such fun interactions, and the author does such a lovely job keeping it interesting. There was a wild curveball thrown in towards the end, but the story was all the better for it. It will definitely be a reread for me in the future, for sure!
