had high hopes because i enjoyed serpent and dove, but was not a fan of this one. not a fan of the tie in of serpent and dove characters either

Shelby Mahurin's The Scarlet Veil follows Celie's character shortly after the events of the Serpent & Dove trilogy. I though The Scarlet Veil was a bit different than Mahurin's previous works, but I think that just makes it even more enjoyable and exciting. I grew to like Celie's character more than I had in S&D because it seems she really and truly starts to grow into her own person rather than going along in life for others. The addition of new characters was fantastic. As always, Mahurin's world building was superb and adds so much to the plot. The atmospheric mysterious aspects of the work kept me wanting to listen to see what would unfold next. Already ready for more.

Thank you NetGalley and Publisher for the AARC in exchange for my honest review.

Shelby Mahurin knows a thing or two about old school fantasy and how to bring it to a whole new level. That’s why she is my guilty pleasure author. So, I already knew if she written a vampire book, it would be good. And oh, I love when I’m right.

The Scarlet Veil was everything I wanted in a vampire book. Even more, actually. I was already counting with a proper slowburn enemies to lovers, full of yearning romance, and I got that, believe me, I got everything I wished for it. But the dark sensual dangerous vibe inspired in Anne Rice? The gothic gorgeous aesthetic? Not even in my wildest dreams. Even the plot was way more immersive than I was expecting. It hit all the right buttons and I had the time of my life reading it.

I love how stories kinda traditional like this one can be amazing when well done. It’s the rule that the simplest thing can be perfect. But this story has nothing of simple. It’s scary and funny, it’s sad and romantic, it’s all and I love every inch of it. Shelby even turn a  not very loved side character in a fantastic protagonist. Célie girl, what happened to you?? I love it! And the gang, THE GANG! I love these babies with all my heart and I will always be. And yes, I’m already referring to some very special vampires in here too.

I didn’t know how much I missed vampire books so much until I read this one. Am I excited for The Shadow Bride? Absolutely! I can’t wait to have it on my hands! Vampire Era is back babies, and BETTER.
