Every year, every couple of months I think: "omg I wish I could turn off my brain and enjoy romantasy. Everybody who reads romantasy seems to be so happy. On the Tik Tok, of course, because in the wild I only met illiterate specimens or even worse, highly read CLASSICS ARE LIFE AND NO JANE AUSTIN AND VICTOR HUGO AREN'T THE CLASSICS. READ SOME SENECA. GET FREAKING CYCERO ON. GO ON WITH SOME GREEK PHILOSOPHERS THAT WROTE STUFF WHILE HIGH AS FUCK, DO YOU KNOW WHO HUYS IS??????.
So yes, every so often, I think: let's join the romantasy club. Let's lobotomise myself and BE HAPPY. But I cannot. I genuinely cannot. I used to adore Sarah J Maas. Before I went to uni, that is. But I used to love it. The same I used to enjoy simpler fantasy books. NOT ANYMORE. Like every happiness in my life, my brain decided to take away this ability from me and therefore, once I got this book in my hands, once the thought "omg I loooove France and this is French inspired!!!" appeared in my brain, I read a couple of pages and then couple more.
And then I got stuck on 300 pages of this book thinking: Jesus Fucking Christ, why is she even fancying this creep, why the name Michał is spelt wrong, why Polish names are associated with Russian aesthetics like they didn't murder us for sports for freaking 150 years and more???
Like this book could have been fun. If I ignored Michał. But it was just too long. And actually, very, very boring, due to that. 300 pages is the mark when our character gains some powers - cool powers, some interesting scenes start happening, but it's all at the snail's speed. No, I don't want to read about ANOTHER trip to the shop. There is such a good build-up and then all just gets lost. Logic? Gone. Plot? Out of the window. Character's personality or any chance to make her more of a warrior than a damsel in distress? Bitch, are you high?
So, yes, life is too short to read books that want me to carry on 600 pages that stopped offering me what they promised. I follow the 3 months rule. Or 300 pages rule. We all know, that our date loves showing off affection and attention for the first 2-3 months and then they show their true face and it ain't pretty. The same is true with this book. My infatuation is over. We are done.

I’ve never read a book with a main character that nearly always picks incorrectly when making a decision. It was like her true enemies were common sense and rational thinking.

Vampires, magic, romance, and murder. Shelby Mahurin has outdone herself with this novel set in the world of the Serpent & Dove series. So well done, I was captivated from the first page. Can’t wait for the next one!
I forgot the other books by this author excited. Now that I remember I recall not liking them much. This book is set in the same world, so I don't want to bother with it anymore. The last scene also felt kinda weird, so nahhh.

I very much would like to relive this book. I greatly enjoyed the twists and turns of the mystery and Isle. Célie and Michal were an unlikely pair that you just couldn’t help root for. I enjoyed watching Célie break out of her glass box and become her own person. It was fun to see Lou and the gang back in action. Thankfully it didn’t overshadow Célie and her story. Overall I really enjoyed this and hope the next book lives up to the first book!
It’s an ACOTAR dupe.
Not like, it’s similar and if you like that series you should read this, but as in, it’s a vampire ACOTAR.
Like, the entire plot line is almost identical.
It was a decent book, but I don’t think I will finish the series, just because I feel like I already know what will happen, since it’s basically a copy
