The Guncle was one of my favorite books of 2021, so I was excited to read his latest, despite knowing it would be sad. I didn't really like most of the characters, and I had a hard time getting into the story itself, but I really liked what Rowley had to say about grief and mortality. Having lost a close friend when I was just 13, so much of this theme really resonated with me and I found it to be really cathartic and even comforting at times. I don't think this will work for everyone, but I think it'll hold a special place in the hearts of the right audience.
