I loved this book! It made me laugh out loud and it made me think about life and friends and family and the bonds we have with each other.

My fanship of Steven Rowley keeps growing. With his latest, THE CELEBRANTS, Rowley once again fills his novel with characters who are intelligent, exasperating, charming, strong and fragile.

Jordan, Jordy, Naomi, Craig and Marielle -- friends since their college days -- invoke a pact to celebrate each of their funerals while still alive. In the ensuing decades and as they drift in and out of each other's lives, circumstances arise for a living funeral to happen; each ceremony containing elements that are outlandish, funny and touching. The novel opens with Jordan facing a serious health crisis and its path provides an emotional link between each character's living funeral ceremony, while also driving the pace of the novel.

Rowley's prose is deceptively light. As often as it is laugh out loud funny, it is frequently profoundly beautiful and insightful. And because of that, I am already eager for his next novel.
