I’m tempted to say this book falls in the loser lit/dummy bitch category a la Queenie with the redeeming quality being that she loves black women instead of white men.  However, I got to the end and realize she’s just young and that justifies it all. Despite all of this, I do enjoy her writing and would definitely read a book from her again, she just had to get this story out first.

This book was about a black woman in the media industry and going back home to discover who you are. Amazing read, could not put down but was a bit annoyed about how the blurb gave most the plot away, and the storyline in the blurb took place 80% of the way through. That meant you knew what was coming and didn’t feel as climatic as it could have been. A very talented author

I wanted to like this book a lot more than I did. I liked the idea, but felt underwhelmed by the love interests in her life. She deserves better. Maybe this is just a blip in her life and I do like that concept, but I want more for her going forward. Less settling!!

I desperately wanted to like this book; the concept was brilliant and a bit like Yellowface (in its expose of an industry). But unfortunately, I did not enjoy reading it. I felt as though I was frustrated throughout. I might give it a go on another day. Sorry 🥲❤️

This was a warm and familiar hug. So easy to relate to. So beautifully written. Easily a top read of the year. So much on the pressure to perform, love & loving based off of what you think you deserve. And both the familiarity & struggle of being back home.

I really enjoyed book. I wasn't expecting it to have romance themes and was slightly disappointed by that but thats my fault for not reading the blurb. I wish the ending was a bit more thought out but overall I really enjoyed this book
