SO MUCH FUN. If you're a Royal Watcher or if you've been following Kate Middleton since the St. Andrews days, then you'll likely enjoy this. And, what I especially love about it despite how entertaining I thought it was, is that it doesn't attempt to be anything other than what it is. Which is basically Kate Middleton fan fiction.

I didn't think I would like it, knowing that's what it was going in to it. But, I did. Because it really was just so much fun and a great piece of entertainment. There will be many people who will dismiss it for what it is. To which I respond:

description

The "Kate" here is American, and the authors do a great job weaving in many of the rumors and facts about the William & Kate courtship and engagement - Jecca Craig, the breakup, fake hair, etc., complete with a red-headed younger prince. It probably is longer than it needs to be, but it will have no problem drawing in readers who are interested in the Royal Family and the hoopla surrounding the Royal Wedding and the years leading up to it. Lots of fun for those who are interested in it all!

would have been five if not for the very abrupt ending

This is soo bad and problematic! It made me soo angry! I literally hate all the characters and the fact that she changes her entire self (her weight, her looks, her personality) just to be with a guy. The crown weighs her every 3 days, changes her looks, makes her quit her job, and her whole personality becomes doing everything for him, completely making her feel like she is going insane and that is just not fully addressed. Could be triggering for some people if they have eating problems. There is no character arc. The characters (all the main ones) stay stagnant and probably actually grow to be worse as people. Super anti-feminist and overall just made me angry.

overall very fun. A bit too close to reality in areas and not realistic enough in others (it is illegal for the princes to marry without the sovereign's permission and because of this two proposed schemes would fail). I did wish it had a sequel but fear if it did it would focus too heavily on the real life inspiration rather than the characters created.

While my reading tends to oscillate wildly between fact-riddled historical fiction and frothy contemporary literature, "The Royal We" sits firmly in a genre of my own creation: fictional pop culture.

You know the type- the characters have different names and their own back stories, but the plot feels just ever too familiar to be completely original.

Call the most recent royal wedding up in your mental news feed. The elegant bride, the groom resplendent in military reds and blue. It's William and Kate, their faces emblazoned on everything from tabloids to tea copies. Then, carefully erase Kate and replace her with a sassy, brassy American named Bex. Now you have the premise of "The Royal We."

I admire the authors for taking a well-known story and adding some personal color. They did a great job making simultaneously guarded and publicized people accessible to you and me. So, while the story isn't regional r even particularly exciting, "The Royal We" is a good, fun, reliable read when you're looking for a dishy distraction.

So I guess I'm on a kick of reading about faux royals. It's pretty silly since I am by no means a royals fanatic/watcher. If any thing, all these books with stories about how paparazzi seriously influence their lives make it sound dreadful.

I did really enjoy how Bex meets Nick in college and how they get to know one another. They have lots of silly and heartwarming adventures and they have the best friends who are great! I think this it'd make a fun movie/mini series. It is quite involved with lots of twists and turns that are kind of soapy. Also, I'm not so sure that Nick is all that, but it was a cute story.

Where to begin...

I was curious about this book since the first time I lay my eyes on it, so I decided to pick this one and read it, at the beginning It was hard to get used to the writing style, but I did anyway.

I decided to give a 2.5 rating first of all because Bex and Nick were a little bit annoying sometimes, especially Nick when everything came out, I swear I could feel his paranoia and how the relationship was coming to an end. It was also good when they were together at oxford you could tell the difference by the end of the book. Their dynamic was good but still not memorable. For me at least, when Nick was away I could feel Rebecca thinking a lot about if begin with him was the right choice, or about a what if... All of it was gone when Nick called or talked to her. Another thing I didn't liked about Rebecca was that she was very naive and easy to persuade, everything she read she believed it and for someone who's going to become the next queen of england is unforgivable, but she was just starting on the business so, it is tolerable.

I was really good with it, I was even enjoying it, but then, of course, everything went to hell since part three.
Everything was tense it was not funny anymore and it was really a mess for all the characters.
When Bex kissed Freddie I lost my shit there, like are you fucking serious? the thing is that her sister had feelings for him and she knew about it. At that point everyone was sleeping with everyone. Lacey was a pain in the ass, she was the ''perfect'' sister and later she became the ''jealous'' sister seeking for attention. I know it is not easy to dealt with something like that, you getting used to be the center of attention in your family and with everyone else... But I believe that if you're jealous of your twin sister you just live with it because that's like your other half and she was incredible selfish about everything that had to do with Bex.
When Nick and Bex came back together and got engaged I started to like the book again enough for three stars but it didn't last long, Nick was serving at the military and was barely with Bex.
Rebecca started again with those thoughts of her about if she made the right choice and that she was losing it. When Freddie suggested to runaway from everything I seriously got mad, like she's engaged to your FUCKING BROTHER. I was not tolerating it. Good thing she resonated and decided to stay with Nick because he was the one. And then... Just when I thought that everything was going to be rainbows and butterflies.. The sister told Clive about them kissing and now he was blackmailing her...

I felt pity for her when Nick knew about it, I really did. Poor Nick, he didn't deserve any of it.
When Rebecca and Nicholas were confronting Clive and then Nick was telling those words to Rebecca... That's when, after a long time I started to like it again. At least at the end the sister was intelligent enough to made up what she had done. I was so mad with that end, like what happened next? It's not fair I really wanted to know what happened with Clive and the wedding at westminster abbey. I really hate open endings.

Anyway, this book, was okay, It had good parts and bad parts.
