Ellen falls in love with Patrick, but unfortunately he has a stalker. This doesn't put her off at first, but eventually it becomes annoying that his ex turns up everywhere. Even worse is Patrick's dead wife, who also seems ever present. This mildly entertaining and not quite as twisty as some of the author's more recent works.
This book was my first Moriarty. I will admit, I knew nothing about this book going into it!
First off, I like the way she writes, The description is nice, the way she describes inner thoughts of the characters is interesting, and each chapter has a little note or quote, etc. related to the plot of the story at the beginning.
This book follows a hypnotist named Ellen in her relationship with Patrick. When he starts acting strangely, and admits he is being stalked, Ellen is fascinated. Who is this woman? Why can't she let go of the relationship? What are her motivations? What does she look like? etc. As the story unfolds, Ellen becomes less fascinated, and more vulnerable to the tolls the stalking takes on her relationship.
Ultimately I had to stop reading this one. I would sit down with it for hours, and I was just bored. I didn't feel like I was getting very far, and I wasn't entertained. It also had this strange thing happening with the plot, it was like it was moving too slowly, and too quickly all at once. I think I abandoned it at about 45% in, and I was like I don't know where she has left to go with this... but I'm not that interested to find out.... So I quit. I could go back to it someday, I'm not quite sure I want to. Oh well!

Ugh, what a bummer after reading the rest of her books. Oh well, back to Jojo Moyes.

I liked this book, though not as much as her others. I did actually like that she told so much of the story from the perspective of the stalker... That was interesting and surprising. I was really rooting for her to get better...

This is a book where I found myself identifying with the bad guy (woman.) If you’ve ever had your heart ripped out and stomped on then it’s impossible NOT to identify and feel for Saskia.
I enjoyed that the story was told both from Ellen’s point of view, and Saskia’s. Patrick was a flawed character that drove me crazy a lot of the time but I also understood why he was the way he was. Grief does funny things to people, and in that way this was very realistic.
All in all this was entertaining and I enjoyed reading it!

Meh. Allllll of the characters are annoying. And nothing ever happens except for that she falls down the stairs.
3.5 - Although I didn't love this one as much as the other Liane Moriarty books, it was still a fast read read that I couldn't put down.
