This was like a 2.5 star book..
Some interesting parts but just kind fell short of a page turner.
Enjoyed learning a little about hypnosis though

Really enjoyed this one. Liane Moriarty is skilled at tackling heavy topics, such as death of a spouse and stalking, with lightness, yet accuracy. She writes like real people think, and I’m always struck by her ability to have plot-driven stories with interesting, very real-feeling characters. The way she conveyed both Ellen and Saskia’s thought patterns, even when illogical, was so compelling.

Just couldn’t finish it. There was so little character development and nothing of real interest happened - at least in my opinion. I made it maybe 20% through, skipped to the end to find out who the stalker was, and that was that.

I do enjoy Liane Moriarty's writing, her books never lag and she keeps me turning the pages. I like the novelty of the Australian settings and their cold winter days in July. In this case I felt sympathy for the stalker character, although she seemed to be a bit more rational than her behavior would indicate. I did grow a bit impatient with Ellen, the hypnotist herself and Patrick the boyfriend, he was either bland or irritating and she was a bit bland as well. (And I had to sigh sadly when she turns up pregnant because I've never been a fan of pregnancy or babies . But that is just me, I need to be mature and remind myself it is perfectly normal for other people to be.) I also thought her reaction to her boyfriend having a stalker who COMES IN HER HOUSE was rather phony. Instead of being, like she was, either indifferent or intrigued, I think most people would instead range from being freaked out to being REALLY freaked out. AND I thought the happily-ever-after with a big bow ending was phony baloney also. But again, this is me, if I'm going to read what is essentially chick lit I must be prepared for happy endings. Still, a little less sap and a little more edge would have made it a better book. I think.

I would actually give this book 3.5 stars. It was interesting to read but some of the characters could have been developed a bit more. I enjoyed Big Little Lies more.

So much gender stereotyping. The main characters were not very likable. The best part of the book was Saskia’s narrative. I don’t think I have ever read such a sympathetic point of view for a stalker before.
