The twist is there is no twist. Good book but not what I've come to expect from the author.
Another great book by Liane Moriarty! I know I didn't gobble it up quickly the way I did Big Little Lies, but as my mother said in her review, I wanted to savor the book because it was so enjoyable. One of the reviews on the back of the book describes it as "like spending the afternoon with a wise, witty, comforting friend" and I think this is a perfect description. As always, she does a great job of creating vivid characters, writing very real dialogue, making very funny observations about people and particularly children, and making me want to go live on a beach in Australia. I was very amused by Ellen's irritation with the boxes in the hallway! Random question--does she include a character named Madeline in every book? This is only the fourth book I have read by her, but so far they all have had a Madeline. Just a random observation that made me wonder if there is a meaning behind it.
To whoever left this in the staff lounge: I hate you. To whoever wrote the jacket teaser: you deserve a raise. It's a predictable romance pitched as a mystery. Yet, once the mystery unravels, the book continues on and on (AND ON AND ON) in the longest denouement I've ever personally witnessed (and I'm an English major). It's also not like a good "dimestore" romance novel with seedy scenes. The best you'll get here is a passing reference to *thinking about previously having* good, "legs up" sex in the shower. That is, we the reader are not even privy to the steamy moment in its full capacity. It's so mild, I could not in good conscience even label it as soft core romance. I've seen teenagers go further in the hallway before the last bell to signal class. Ultimately, it's 300 pages too long (I'm not exaggerating -- it really is 440 pages) and has the unmitigated audacity to offer discussion questions. I continued reading with the same interest as one gapes at a train wreck. So, to whoever edited: you should lose your job; cut the clutter!
I ended up enjoying this book a lot more than I expected. As usual, Liane Moriarty's character development is outstanding, and I feel like I've made a few more friends in Australia.
The story wasn't what I thought it was going to be, and I was pleasantly surprised by the direction once I realized what was happening. Like her other books, she tackles somewhat serious issues (in this case: stalking) in a less-serious way, but without minimizing them. It's a tricky thing to do, but Liane (I feel like I'm on a first-name basis with her now) does it well.
I'd definitely recommend this to people who've already read Big Little Lies, What Alice Forgot and The Husband's Secret; I wouldn't suggest it as the first of her books to read, but if you're already familiar with her writing, I'd say add this to your list.

I really enjoyed all of the information in this book about mindfulness and the power of the mind. I loved the character Saskia and really wished that we could have focused on her relationship and life instead of Patrick , he wasn't a likable character and I could not help but hope something bad would happen to him. The short fall of this book was the ending in my opinion,, but overall a good read.

I couldn't finish this book, which is sad because I loved the premise. Someone else said the end is the best. Unfortunately I couldn't make myself keep reading it, it just meandered to nowhere for so long.
Well fuck ME that was a good book. Not the coolest, best constructed story but still, super fun, engaging book.
