Good beach book -- and not only because it takes place at a house on the beach. I like how the main character says the right things and then in parens says how she really feels -- like the rest of us!
Release Date: July 14, 2012
Genre: Women's Fiction
Liane Moriarty is one of my favorite authors. She has a superb storytelling ability and a very unique voice in the business. Unfortunately, this book wasn't my favorite though. I felt like it was really long and drawn out and I desperately wanted something more to happen with the story. This is not to say that the story wasn't good because it was, but it is definitely my least favorite of all of her books that I have read to date.
The premise of the story is amazing; a hypnotherapist finds love unexpectedly only to be told that there is one little problem -he has a stalker-. And this stalker is much closer than anyone would anticipate as she is a client of the hypnotherapist... Sounds exciting AND unique, right? It is, but it didn't deliver like I expected it to. I wanted something big to happen or at least a bit more intense and thrilling like her other books (Big Little Lies, The Husbands Secret, etc.) but it just wasn't there. It was pretty mundane for the length.
Aside from that, I will certainly continue reading the authors books as I am a huge fan and have been pretty impressed by her books. If you are a fan of the author, I would recommend the book to you and the same goes for those who enjoy women's fiction novels.

Probably my least favorite out of Moriarty’s books. I love her writing style so the back and forth of perspectives was always intriguing to me. I liked the storyline but most of it wasn’t enticing enough for me.

Ugh, what a boring book. This is a story of a hypnotherapist who meets a guy and falls in love. Only it turns out he has a stalker, and that he was married but his wife died. Can their relationship overcome such obstacles??
My problem with this book is that the "obstacles" aren't even really obstacles. The stalker isn't scary. Yes, she's obsessive, and crazy, but not angry or mean-spirited. She even likes her ex's new girlfriend. I was never afraid of what she might do. And the former wife, who he is still in love with - obviously there will be a heart-to-heart at some point on that subject.
Honestly, I got near the end, and just started skimming pages rather than actually reading. There's no drama or suspense in this story. If you like dull, predictable love stories, then I'd say this one is for you. Otherwise, don't waste your time!

i enjoyed the book. But out of the three books I have read of hers I liked it least. The characters were funny and interesting as you got to learn more and more about them and you find yourself sympathizing with characters you might not normally.

I read this for a bookclub, and it's the sort of thing I'd never pick up on my own but is perfectly average and inoffensive. A real 3/5 for me in every sense. I was and remain totally indifferent to the love interest, but it's an easy read.

I have really enjoyed every book by Liane Moriarty that I have read, but this was not my favorite.
The new young couple being stalked by an ex was extremely intriguing, especially as our stalker, Saskia, is given a POV alongside Ellen, our FMC. Ellen's job as a hypnotherapist was also interesting. I honestly didn't even DNF when introduced to one of my deal-breaker tropes; it fit the story and was handled in a way that made it tolerable, even though I literally said "ew, no!" out loud to my steering wheel when it happened.
BUT I did not love the characters. Honestly, Saskia was my favorite of them all. I only felt even a little drawn to continue reading simply to see what she'd do next. Otherwise, I felt minimally invested in Ellen, and even less invested in her partner and his son.
I would still recommend to fans of Liane's other works, with the disclaimer that it does not have The Husband's Secret level plot twists, so set your expectations accordingly.
