No spice yet, just kissing, touching, and 1 blowie
So normally when I DNF it’s an automatic 1 star. I will give more than 1 star to books that I DNF but I feel like it’s more a case of the book just wasn’t for me.
And while this isn’t necessarily a BAD book. It isn’t good either. So that’s why it gets 2 stars. I didn’t mesh with it…. But I think some will, but I don’t think it’s good enough to say I’d recommend it to the right reader.
Okay so you have newly formed stepbrothers with GFY/bi- awakening. A little bit of hurt comfort. One MC is a jock and instantly super protective of MC 2 who is a tiny bit younger and artsy. They are dealing with an asshole parent, some themes of homophobia and just navigating being a teenager.
The story it’s self is fine. The super protective energy coming from Finn was overkill to me. I like a protective MC but for actual threats. Finn about has a break down because Ollie gets splashed with slushy water in the winter. Ollie is 18 and active……. He’s not catching hypothermia from spending 5 minutes in cold wet clothes. They get him out of the clothes quickly and he’s fine but Finn continues to freak out…. It was annoying.
The dialogue was my second biggest issue. It was just really corny, juvenile, and didn’t seem to fit the characters. Finn is a wealthy jock thats got 1 foot out the door. He’s self sufficient and is really just trying to graduate to keep his trust fund. Yet when Ollie is being bullied by a fellow student and defends himself…. Finn’s response is: “That’s right! Walk away, fuckface!”
It just didn’t sit right with me and I literally DNF’d after that sentence.
It’s also low spice. Which isn’t a bad thing. They are just legal teenagers just discovering their identities so it makes sense. But that also meant there was literally nothing to keep me interested in continuing.
Started off good but got quickly boring, literally the guys are in love after a couple of days knowing each other and then the author tried to insert some drama after their first kiss my making Finn freak out even tho it felt super forced and lasted all of like two pges
