About the Book: Vampires are born, not made. Making blood lineage disgustingly important, to a point where Isla’s entire life was completely destroyed by her own family, just so the bloodline would continue the right way, the way her parents preferred it. Having returned to the vampire society, she never felt home, and avoided what she could, until new King got crowned, and new entertainment started to unfold. You see, many a vampire dreamed of being able to turn humans. Be it due to love they felt towards someone. Or be it because they got fed up with the status quo… And someone seems to have finally found a way.

My Opinion: First three fourths of the book were great, simple, but solid woven plot, with refreshed vampire myth, a fun main character who could just be friends with Pam from True Blood, the way she carries herself. But then something happened, and entire final quarter got so incredibly cliché and predictable, it was almost sad. When book ends with a cliffhanger, and yet you know exactly what happens next – that’s just upsetting. Still. While characters were still a bit underdeveloped, they were just good enough to keep carrying whatever plot lacked. So I will read another one.

Fantastic story

I ADORED this story. It was such a unique take on vampires and paranormal as a whole. I also adore Isla. Shes a great character. My issue with this book comes with the writing. There was far too much internal dialogue and some parts just were too drawn out and I ended up skipping them over. That being said, I am definitely invested in the story and will be reading the next book

2.5 stats. Started out promising but by the end of it I was bored and unintressed of the story

Not your typical vampire book, which makes it awesome. Isla is sassy, bad ass, and has amazing fashion sense. She’s also got a huge heart with a lot of love. If you are looking for a book that is not your ordinary love story, then you have to read this. I laughed, cried, all at the same time

Wow! I almost put it down at the beginning, I wasn't sure if it was right for me. I am so very glad I kept with it! This was great!! Cannot wait for the next one!

I’m an even bigger Anne Malcom fan girl now!

I thought I was already a fan of the works of Anne Malcom. Now I am a Super Fan! I loved every single thing about this book. It had romance and snark and angst and vampires!!!
All the things that make my heart go pitter patter. Can’t write more. I’m on to book 2!
dark funny mysterious fast-paced

This book was phenomenal. There was a huge hype about it even way before the release date but I still went into it with quite a reservation because the author writing style wasn’t my favorite based on my previous experiences with her works. I’m happy to say that this book swept me off my feet within one page of the story.

The writing is exceptional; it improved a lot since Making the cut. The world the author created is amazing and has a lot of original element to it. I really enjoyed delving into the secrets and shadows of this scenery. But in all honesty this one is a really brutal, dark, grisly story and world, not really for the faint hearted but Isla character puts a comic, lightening spin on the complex and extremely fast paced plot. Unfortunately the storyline is a little chaotic thanks to the numerous and unexplained secrets and mysteries and the continuously popping up questions. Not knowing the answer for any of them became quite frustrating by the end. So the truth is that the cliffhanger is not the only factor that makes me crazy excited about the next book.

Isla is probably my favorite female lead so far this year. She is kickass, loved her attitude and somewhat sarcastic, narcissist, callous and brutally honest self. But she has a lot of flaws and built really thick walls round herself. Also her inability to take anything seriously can be quite annoying but for a while it worked. One thing tough, her philosophical and ideological lectures during stare offs and every other inappropriate moment is a bit strange and it breaks up the flow of the events and also betrays her soft spot toward humans.
Her romantic life is messed up as hell, not just because her parents trying to sell her out as a broodmare but she catches the eye of two not quite ideal man whom are polar opposites of each other and their lifestyle doesn’t really agree with her. So there is a love-triangle-y situation and I have to tell you that she doesn’t ends up with the one I rooted for.

The story kept me on edge the whole time and there is a lot of unused potential to it still. This is a long book but you won’t regret the time spent on it. I’m really curious how things will develop in the nest books especially since I didn’t expect the twist at the end. The only thing I didn’t give it a perfect score is because as the story progressed thing became mushier and mushier and Isla hardened personality started to soften up in not the most appealing direction, she started to lose her edge.

I couldn't decide between a 2 or a 3. I guess this is a 2.5. I liked elements of this book but it just fell short for me in many ways. I guess I'm at an odds with most people on this book. I just got tired of some of the "witty" banter after a while, It felt contrived. I wasn't a huge fan of the slayer either, he rubbed me the wrong way in a lot of ways. I also didn't feel any real connection between the two. The action was okay at times but some of the story felt bland. In the end I didn't feel much about this story at all. Plus it took me a LONG time to finish, I had to keep putting it down in boredom.

A badass and funny MC, pop culture references all around, awesome plot and amazing cliffhanger at the end... I'm for sure reading the next book in a few minutes!
Thanks!

I loved loved loved this book!!How come I didn't come across Anne Malcom's writing before?Which rock was I living under?OMG!
I'm so glad that I didn't miss this on at least and that I got a chance to read it early!I feel like shouting out from the rooftops about my love for this book, and I am so close to forcing everyone I know to read this book!

From this moment onward, Isla is my favorite heroine in PNR and I don't think anyone can beat it.I have a long list of favorites in UF and Fantasy, but noone has ever come close to making it to the top of my PNR list, but Isla did!
She is a lovely, beautiful, kickass bitch and I love her so much! She is the perfectly imperfect protagonist.I loved her dirty, sarcastic mouth and her witty retorts.
Imagine a female version of Damon Salvatore, just even more sexier, wittier and more loyal.
You have Isla!
I loved the way she stood upto her family and fought for what she believed in.And when she loved, my god, she does it what all her heart. This woman! <3
And the romance had my heart pounding! So many secrets and so many clues!Something really big is happening and I'm dying to know!!
The fast pace of the plot along with the writing had me turning the pages. And the action scenes were just plain awesome!I think I finished this book in just two hours!
And later I was just staring at the wall!
I don't know what to do with my life!!

I know I'm being super vague, but trust me it's intentional.I went in this book after just reading the blurb and I had no idea what would happen and that was the best approach!Don't read any spoilers or anything about the storyline, just go in blind and I promise you that you'll love it!
And that ending!OMG Anne have some pity on us!I'm dying to get my hands on the next book now and I'll be stalking you every second to make sure you're writing it so that it'll be released soon.Lol!
