In Too Deep
Dive Team Investigations #2
By Lynn H. Blackburn
When Adam Campbell's name is linked to what first appears to be a suicide the Carrington County Sheriff's Office recovery operation soon becomes a murder investigation. But what they find is more than a murder and could have far-reaching consequences throughout the county if what they find can be deciphered.
When Adam calls on his friend Dr. Sabrina Fleming to help recover any information on the laptop found submerged with the victim, he's not prepared for what she's about to uncover. And when Sabrina seemingly becomes a target due to her participation in the investigation Adam is determined to keep her safe. But is he willing to tell her how he feels?
In Too Deep brings back all the main characters that we were introduced to in Beneath the Surface and if you read the sneak peek that was in the back you know just what the team is about to discover and the action builds from there. If you haven't read the first book no problem you can catch up later as this time the story focuses more on Adam and Sabrina with Gabe taking a lead role in the investigation.
If you like suspense you'll love this series as the suspense and danger build to a surprising and unexpected conclusion. This is one series that I hope will have another book in the near future.

I couldn’t wait to start In Too Deep. Ever since reading Beneath the Surface, I’d been looking forward to Adam and Sabrina’s story. I was already looking forward to getting to know these characters that I already cared about from their introduction in the first book. And Lynn exceeded my expectations.
As much as I enjoyed her first Dive Team novel, I believe I liked this second one even more. Sabrina is so likable and I love how much Adam cares about her- first as a friend and I enjoyed watching their relationship grow.
I deeply appreciated Lynn’s shining a spotlight on the horrors of human trafficking with this novel. It is an issue that I care about and I feel is not talked about enough on any platform. I appreciate a Christian novelist calling attention to this issue that I believe all Christians should be aware of and passionate about.
I cannot wait to read book number 3!

What began with an interesting premise and a starting chapter that had me hooked, In Too Deep quickly spins into a tepid romance between characters Adam and Sabrina are difficult to root for. I wanted more focus on the murder where the victim is found with a chilling message that reads "They killed me. Ask Adam Campbell." I'm not sure if it would have been helpful to have read the first book to have more of a background on these characters, so please take that into consideration. I thought at times the dynamics between the characters worked and at other times they fell flat. And this may be because of the dialogue. I found the dialogue not to be realistic and it felt repetitive at times. Just ask her out already, Adam, so the book can focus on the actual mystery! And this is where my issue lies within this book. It can't decide if it's romance, if it's mystery, or if it's Christian fiction. While other authors expertly blend all three genres seamlessly, In Too Deep splatters a little mystery here, a lot of romance here, a dash of Christian fiction here, a little more mystery, more romance, etc. This is a shame since I hoped this would be a series I would enjoy.

The main characters in this book are Adam and Sabrina. Both were introduced in the first book of the series, but you don't need to read it to understand the book.
I like Adam's down to earth personality and his passion for the truth, no matter what. A privileged man doing what he loves and enjoys, but not acting at all like he's privileged. A believable Gentleman.
Sabrina has an interesting role (I'd say job, but it's not really) with an unusual personality. She's terrible at reading people and socially awkward, but that just makes her more intriguing. She has and is helping the police department with collecting evidence from computers.
The book starts out with a routine underwater dive to gather evidence, but quickly you are drawn into a scenario that is anything but routine. This case is about something that is a current (sad) topic in our world.
The ending was not easy to figure out, I found myself wondering how was the author going to do this... Lynn Blackburn did a marvelous job wrapping it up and leaving no loose ends to this case.
I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
I was given a copy of this book from the author and Baker Publishing Group and was under no obligation to to post a review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

Lots of unexpected connections in this romantic suspense! Enjoyed it thoroughly!
My favorite genre' to read is Christian suspense, and that means I have read a lot of it. I can honestly say this author is one of the best I have read. I was wowed with the first book, and the wowing continued in book 2.
I enjoy a series of books where the same main characters are in the whole series, but each book centers on a different person in each book. This series revolves around 4 members of a dive team of investigators, who do most of their work on land, but obviously diving is part of their work.
Book 1 centered on Ryan, and book 2 on Adam. It is normal to have a favorite character in a series, and I was hoping book 2 would center on Gabe....the one who has the funniest lines in the book, and was disappointed when that didn't happen.....but how wrong I was to be disappointed. Though it didn't seem to me that Adam was much of an interesting character in book 1, that was proven wrong in this book. I came to like him and Sabrina very well throughout the book, though the author has created some great and likable characters besides them.
This may be a slight spoiler, but isn't anything that will ruin the book: the main plot of the book revolves around human trafficking. Though the book and accounts of it are fictional, the reality that it exists in our country is not fiction. Though it is sad to read even of fictional accounts of it, it does one good to be reminded there is such evil in the world, and even in our own country.
In Too Deep was full of suspense, drama, romance, and humor. I may have mentioned it in the review for the first book, but Blackburn is a master at the banter between her characters, and I was laughing out loud a lot throughout the book. The romance part.... I may be a bachelor for life, but I am a romantic, so I usually enjoy that part of romantic suspense, and this one was done very well. It is refreshing to read a book where there is no whirlwind romance that ends with a marriage at the end of the book. In this case, the couple had known each other for 2 years, and just had never acted on their mutual attractions.
I like to figure things out in a suspense novel, yet I also enjoy surprises.... and the book had plenty of those. A lot happened that I didn't see happen, and the motives for things were a surprise also.
I enjoy police procedure and crime investigation, and though I am no expert, Blackburn's description of those were not only interesting, but seemed like what would actually happen.
This was truly an great read from start to finish, and had a very awesome ending. It may be better than the book it follows. It definitely left me wanting to read more in this series, and more from this author.

Fabulous! Full of memorable characters you'll want to know in real life, and packed with Faith that flows so naturally from the lives of this group of imaginary friends.
Have tissues handy because the tears will flow midway through the story and you'll be ugly crying by the end of the book. You won't see the ending coming until it hits you like an emotional freight train and completely blows your mind.
Blackburn had joined the ranks of my must read authors, and she's solidified her spot with In Too Deep! Oh, and good luck staying up all night, or as I like to say, playing the 'just one more page' game (hint: Lynn H. Blackburn wins...And so do you!)
