Okay, I'll admit that it took me maybe four months of on-again, off-again reading to finish this book but that isn't through any fault of the story. Been busy, stuff to do, am easily distracted, the usual.

A lot of that might have to do with the story's pacing (not to mention Stephanie's rather abysmal success rate). There are so many hitches in the investigation and moments of secondhand embarrassment that it sort of lags at times or you want to put it down and go, "Oh, Stephanie."

Still, I don't think I've ever read anything like the Stephanie Plum books. Say what you like about Janet Evanovich, but she brings the burg to full technicolor life to me, where everyone is a character you feel she must have known in real life.

Hers is also one of the funniest and most distinctive voices I've ever read. After all, there aren't a lot of books that are willing to end with the word "doodah."

Great book - Stephanie Plum's character is hysterical - halfway through the 4th one....love it!

The third book in the Stephanie Plum series continues to delight. On an umpteenth reread, I still enjoy this book, but it doesn't have the fun and oomph of the first two. The plot is still quite a bit contrived, but I love the introduction of Stephanie's ex-husband, Dickie Orr. Having read most of the series, to go back and see their initial interaction was a treat.

2020 - this was one of the few Stephanie Plum novels that didn't HIT for me. The eventual plot reveal just didn't have the same believability the rest of them did. (And that's saying something!)

I just started reading the Stephanie Plum books and I enjoyed the first two. The third, not so much. I know this was written in 1998, but the racist undertones to the humor just turned me off. I will give #4 a try and see if it gets better as the books move forward in time.

Stephanie Plum is back and is trying to capture the kindly old man who runs the burg's candy and soda shop. In trying to capture him, Stephanie stumbles upon the fact dealers are being killed and heavy users are ODing in record numbers. Joe morelli and ranger hit the Plum reisidence twice for dinner. Grandma Mazur decides she too needs a stud muffin (although she seems a bit restrained this outing). Lula offers her assistance. Stephanie tries to destroy her new baby truck and, of course, can't do anything to big blue.

Good. Stephanie chasing a fugitive while having her hair colored is funny. Lula is good for a laugh, and Connie too.

Another action-packed mystery for Stephanie, full of humor and fun characters. Great addition!

So far, my favorite of the Stephanie Plum books. Nice to see they get better.

Enjoyable, light read in the continuing story of Stephanie Plum.
