Perfect quarantine book. Ideal atmospheric spooky read for being stuck inside.
This book was spoooooky. Like the scariest book I've read. And I've read at least 23 books in my life.
Not a book I could have read if my husband was out of town. Lololol but the writing was great. Again with the short chapters. Thanks Becs. Would recommend if you like gothic, witchy, creepy tales that take place during two timelines in haunted English castles.

I loved this! I couldn’t put it down and had to know what happens next. I love the writing style and the characters and the Gothic feel of the book. Definitely recommend.
I received a gifted copy of this book from Minotaur. The views expressed are my own.
The Woman in the Mirror follows Alice Miller, a governess in 1947, and Rachel Wright, a modern day curator, as they discover the secrets of an isolated English estate. There’s unrequited love, deceitful children and a haunted house. So basically it’s everything you could possibly want!
This is not a book I would typically pick up, but I had a hard time putting it down. The Woman in the Mirror is a delightfully creepy, atmospheric tale. And Rebecca James does a fantastic job of handling two timelines and unraveling secrets that kept me on the edge of my seat.
I will say I found the two main characters to be a bit annoying by the end, but all things considered I still highly recommend picking this one up.

Chilling and atmospheric, this novel is a wonderful addition to the Gothic genre--moorlands, crumbling cliffs, stormy seas, and a brooding hero! Great read!

This was such an engaging read. A tasty lovechild of The Turn of the Screw and The Yellow Wallpaper, among other classic gothic tropes. I loved the sense of voice and especially the English narrator on the audiobook. I didn't feel any of the romantic pairings were earned or developed, but the story was satisfying enough for that not to matter. There's also a very silly 'I googled the mystery and the top result told me everything' scene, but we'll forgive it.
