so very glad this book and the rest in the trilogy were not the first books i read by James. ugh.
this book was better than the other 2 in the trilogy. it is closer to the great books she writes now.
the narration was weird and lots of it was unnecessary info that did not move the story along or any of the secondary stories. the main characters were so annoying and dumb and just ugh. there was none of the sparkling wit and funny circumstances like what i found in her duchess or fairytale series. i skipped major parts cuz they bored me or the characters just made me want to slap them for their stupidity/angst.
i guess what really was wrong was my vast disappoint in the books and how much potential each character had to be great like they are in her other books. so very glad i did not read these earlier works first. i would have never read anything else by her.

Well, it was nice to see a little more realistic depiction of first sex for the time period. I felt like Gabby was incredibly simple, but we were supposed to think she was really smart. She orchestrated the whole deal with the Indian kid, but she was so very stupid about so much else. Her father's portrayed through most of the book like someone she greatly looks up to, but then in the end we find that's not the case at all. This one was okay, but not fab.
I’d be very curious to read a version of this book with 2020’s standards of consent and autonomy. It wasn’t malicious, but it didn’t sit well all the same

Awful.

This is one of my favorites by Eloisa James. Quill is a lovable, tortured, injured heroine, and Gabby is fun and rather clueless. Peter, in his own way, is an equally interesting character. As usual, however, a secondary plot tends to get in the way and the times when you most want to find out about Quill and Gabby - I really wish she would just stick to one story per book! I think the end of this book goes a little bit far in the melodrama direction as well, but it's still a fun book and I enjoyed it.
4.5⭐️ did not love as much as the first 2 in the series but it still was really good. I think I just did not fall in with the characters or plot as much
