Wow, what an emotional page turner. That’s all I have to say.

I had a hard time putting it down so I guess it was a decent read. Wasn’t thrilled with how all the events turned out at the end and there was a lot of memory loss with the two main characters. Believable? For one of them maybe. I also struggled with the ages of the children. They seemed too young for their behavior.

Oh I wanted to like you a lot — you were vetted and enjoyed by my bookclub, but you were just a ‘meh’ read for me.

I enjoy books with alternating narrators so as the book went back and forth between out two secret-keeping-struggling moms on holiday — I did like the change of viewpoint. However, I just couldn’t get really ‘into’ what either had to say.

I like the concept of the story: single serving friends. Someone we meet and interact with just one summer and the impacts made on each other’s lives....it just wasn’t well executed in my opinion.

Yes, both come to the table with challenging children and marital struggles...yes there is drama...yes there are secrets revealed...but...I just didn’t get sucked.

Overall, an okay read. But I don’t need to read again and I will not race out to read anything else by this author.

A friend suggested we read this novel in our book club and unfortunately, we were disappointed. I won't go into a detailed summary of the novel, but instead point out a few things that could have been improved upon.

The story follows the parallel lives of 2 women who rent summer homes next door to each other in Upstate New York. One is from Park Slope, Brooklyn, the other from the Upper East Side. The author tries to make them opposite in the sense that one is very rich while the other is not. I am a native of Brooklyn and I must say that putting making the woman from Park Slope seem like she was poor is just inaccurate. That part of Brooklyn is one of the most expensive parts of the borough and just not realistically portrayed. Aside from that, I think the author tried to show that the characters had a lot of similarities to each other in their personal lives, but it was just too many similarities and neither woman stood out with their own unique traits.

I felt like the whole story was very cliche, and too many events occurred at exactly the same time for it to be realistic. That was probably my biggest takeaway from this story, is that it didn't seem realistic to me. It was a bit depressing and not something I would recommend.
