What a cool, pretty and fun children's book. It filled my heart with joy.

I like Sendak in general, but I don't care much for this one even though everyone seems to rave about it.
I enjoyed reading this book. I had heard a lot about it, but had never actually read it until now. This book is great for children because it is something they can relate to. The main themes in this book are imagination, forgiveness and family. Children can relate to having big imaginations where they fight monsters and such, and sometimes, those imaginations can land the children in trouble with their parents. Although they may be in trouble, the parent always forgives the children and shows them that they still love them, no matter what they do.
A wild boy in a wolf suit is sent to bed without supper when surprisingly his room transforms into a forest and a sea and an island full of monstrous “wild things”. Luckily, when he returns he finds that his supper is waiting for him and it’s still hot. An all-time fave for me and my kids!
One of my first, and favorite children’s books owned - my love for this book makes it harder to evaluate and describe. I love the illustration in particular, real, yet fantastic. I think that the pictures themselves tell part of the story, and the bits of repetition aid in the story learning experience for children. The use of words like “gnash” aid in the story telling experience.
