"Start of a long journey!"

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes and in fact I have! It's a great follow up to the first book, and WOW the story went up a notch!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Power of Six?
Oooh, to tell that is to tell the story! But, one feels that pain of the characters and that stands out for me.

Any additional comments?
There is definitely a sense in this book, this is just the tip of a very big iceberg. As with many series, I felt cheated that it ended on a cliffhanger, and hungry for the next book!

I have to admit I read I am Number Four because I watched the movie and it was entertaining. While I am Number Four was much more involving and made me feel that much closer to the main chars, I find that The Power of Six is a little lacking in creating that connection again. It felt like the book was too long, when it really wasn't. The plot was nice, even if creating a Number 10 is stretching it a little.

The fact that the story is split between what is happening to John, Sam, Six and Bernie Kosar in US on one hand, and to Marina, Adelina and Ella in Spain on the other, adds to the feeling of distance. Also, the fact that so many of the characters do things they shouldn't or that contradict what they know they should do.

It has very little space between one packed action scene and the next and this creates the sense of needing to rush that the chars are feeling. At times it has the unnerving habit of switching from one char to the other in the middle of the action, so you are seeing what is happening to John in the US on one hand and to Marina in Spain on the other, almost at the same time. But It makes you feel the adrenalin anyways and keeps you hooked, so it's not all bad.

I really liked Ella as a person and even more as another Lorien of the Garde. She is the youngest but she pulls her weight. Sam kept up with everything as a puny human, so kudos to that! Not only the aliens with superpowers can be helpful and save the day. Crayton as a Cepan was awesome, now they finally have someone who can tell them what is what from their Chess!!! And Nine was simply kickass, it seems like the best of the Garde are coming out of that cave the Mogadorians have :P Maybe they should convert it to a training camp and send John there so he can gather his wits about him.

I will read the next book soon, since I already have it but I am a little less driven since Sam got left behind by Four. I mean, I can see why because of how it happened and he had no other option, but still, it didn't sit well with me. Specially after John got himself caught by going to check on Sarah who turned them all in. He then got all egotistical and abandoned Six, who rushed to save Marina and co in Spain while he went to get his chest to the cave. Where he left Sam after things went from bad to worse. See what I mean? Liking Four less and less.

Still, I want to see what happens to them.

It was a good book. I liked seeing Six, John, and Sam's dynamic. I also enjoyed meeting Ella and Marina, I was very sad about what happened to Marina's Boyfriend. But I liked seeing their powers grow and how their fighting styles have evolved. Sam is definitely my favorite character, It was giving Leo Valdez for me.

Really, a 3.5, and I would like to retroactively lower my review of I Am Number Four to three stars.

Better than the first book, but as is typical in this type of YA fiction, there is A LOT of exposition to slog through until things start to get really interesting. Unfortunately, the good stuff doesn't start until the last quarter of the book, a few plot threads are resolved, and then once again we're left waiting for another year for a sequel. Ah, the teen publishing money machine...

I guess publishers are more interested in money making franchises (with movie adaptation possibilities... yes, Stephenie Meyer, I am looking at YOU) than in writers who can tell a good, concise story.

I really should go back to the classics, but I'm just so sucked in by these YA, dystopian society novels...

I liked this one a good deal more than the first one. There was a lot of action and I felt like it moved a lot quicker. I also really loved getting to see a different perspective. Honestly, I don't like John a whole lot. He's kind of dumb and not that good at any of this. Plus the whole love quadrilateral crap is really old. I am so sick of that convoluted bull being incorporated in these books. I mean, you're trying to save the world, people, can we please FOCUS here?!

Other than that, though, I really had a good time. I liked getting to know Marina, and her story genuinely had me on the edge of my seat, especially after the little teases in the first book. There were some nice twists that made things interesting while moving things along. Though I don't understand why a certain prisoner was being held. I thought the Mogs would know the charm was broken... I'd also like a little more explanation around that second ship, but I can wait patiently to see what happens. I mean that scene was a little intense.

Anyway, my only real issues were the love story and the poor decision making. All of which rested with John. The rest I could really get into and was very caught up in. I'm excited for the next book and have already delved into it. Unlike the last series I read, this one definitely keeps getting better.

The audiobook was very well done.
