The Power of Six

Pittacus Lore

Extremely exciting. It was worth it, staying up late just to finish this.

Ugh.. So much hatred was boiling inside me when I finally finished this book after down with fever for almost two days.

First, each chapters deal with different Lorien. Or well, to be more precise, the first few chapters were about Seven, about her life in Spain and bla bla bla. And then somewhere in the next chapter, the scene suddenly shifted to John Smith, Number Six, and Sam Goode, oh and plus Bernie Kosher too. And what's worse, there's no differentiation or chapter name or anything to tell that it's being narrated by different characters. I mean really, after a whole chapter exploring Santa Theresa convent with Number Seven, the next chapter you'd be transported to the US to follow Four and co. I mean, come on? How lazy can you be to write down the name of the narrator on as the chapter's title.
I couldn't help but comparing this with Riordan's Kane Chronicles and Heroes of Olympus series, both using similar approach, but at least Riordan told which character is the narrator for that chapter. And that's a great help. Constantly switching between Spain and US can be really tiring.

Second, Number Four aka John Smith kept pissing me off. He's totally fall into the stereotypical heroes. Exactly like Harry Potter. He went against his better judgement in a whim just for something he regards as the best feeling in his life. He knew meeting Sarah would be like exposing them to the FBI et cetera, but he still did it. Why? Because he loved her. Even after he knew that she's the one who turned them in to the police. Oh God, Sarah Hart, how dumb can you be? D: Do you really want to fall to the blonde stereotype just because your loved one has the hero stereotypes in him?

Third, Ella as the Number Ten. What's this? Seven is really that amusing number that now Pittacus Lore decided that Six isn't enough? Then why did the book title is "Power of Six"? Okay, so far there's Four, Six, Nine, Seven, and (Goodness) Ten. Obviously the next book, the readers will be transported to South America, where Number Five is, unless of course, she died or captured and the story follows this book's title.

Apart of all that, what annoy me is that there are too many cliches scattered all around the book. How Number Seven is bullied and doesn't have any friend, and even her Cepan "ignores" her, bla bla bla but she finds companion in Hector and Ella. Urrr... old story much? And how Adelina easily succumb to her role back as a Cepan after years ignoring Number Seven and even tried to make her "settled in". It's just... both too cliche and totally unrealistic.

It's kind of sad to see the story went downhill. Despite the fact that I don't really like the first book, and totally not into the movie. I still like the premise. It's like the movie "9". I'm not sure about my reaction for the next book. I'm thinking not to read it, but seeing as nobody around me will read it. I have no choice but to read it either way. This is such the dilemma of a book junkie. xD

I am just unbelievably blown away by this book, and have no clue why I never finished this series sooner.

The Power of Six, to me, is much more exciting than the first one. Plus, we get a view on Number Seven, a.k.a Marina, of the Sea.

John can kick rocks idc. I LOVE six and marina and her perspective, oh I love it. I did cry but not like a baby, like cool chill girl
over adelina and marinas desperation and henri

This.was.awesome. I loved it! I honestly couldn't put it down. Spoiler It focuses on the love square between Sam-Four-Six-Sarah. I think Sam should get with Six.... Anyway we also meet Seven (Marina) and the baby from Four's dreams, Ella A.K.A Number Ten. I loved every minute of it and can't wait for Rise of The Nine.

This is the 2nd of the Main stories in the series, and follows on directly from I am Number Four.
This book introduces a new Garde character, Number Seven, Marina, and her Cepan, Adelina. Marina and Adelina have had a different existence to most of the Loric we know on Earth, they ended up in a convent in the mountains of Spain. They have done little or no training, and Marina has really no idea of her gifts unless she accidently stumbles across one.
Adelina has turned to religion to try and seek comfort for what has happened and has basically turned her back on the entire war against the Mogs.
In the meantime, after opening up Fours chest, Four, Sam and Six go back to Paradise to check something out. I don’t want to give too much away. This leads to all sorts of complicated things when Four tries to see Sarah again, the FBI are involved, and so are the Mogadorians.
This book alternates from fast pace in one part, to slow in another as we alternate between Four and Seven. Eventually, Seven picks up as well and then the pages will just be flipping by.
As with the others, this a great fun read – the writing seems to improve with each evolution, characters are becoming well formed, and the background information is getting very detailed.
As I have said with the other books , this is no Shakespeare, so don’t expect it, but do expect good fun, a bit of escapism and the great bit of Hero’s fighting off an evil alien race – just as this type of book should be.
At the end of the book, Number Nine is also introduced – with some very interesting results.
If you are a fan, or liked the first one, this is a must read.
