Perfect start to a new series!!

What a fantastic start to a new series from Lauren Layne!!

I’m a huge fan of Ms. Layne’s writing style. She is one of the best at the slow-burn romances that have you waiting on the edge of you seat for the tension to finally break.

I loved the chemistry between Ian and Laura. The banter between them throughout the story was fantastic. I was rooting for them but also very impressed with Lara’s conviction to do remain as professional as possible while still allowing herself explore the attraction between them.

I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I really enjoyed the non-romance element of the story. I felt like Ms. Layne was giving just the right amount of info about insider trading, the SEC and the investigative process without putting so much emphasis on it that it took away from the romance.

I really enjoyed the pacing of the story, the smartness of it and the way the secondary characters played into it and how excited it got me to read their stories. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t mostly excited for Kennedy’s book though. If you haven’t read Lauren Layne yet I highly suggest you make her a must read author ASAP!

Supremely Insta love you story, however, it’s nice to hear the characters themselves acknowledge how quickly they have fallen. Four stars for the cute found family/friendship circle dynamics.
lighthearted medium-paced

“You take my suggestion to seduce the lady agent?
I smile. Lady agent. I wonder how Lara would feel about the moniker. ‘I tried. Didn’t take. Trying to clear my name the old-fashioned way, though,’ I respond.
‘Hiring someone to take out the witness?”

Hot Asset was everything I expected from a Lauren Layne book and more. The New York setting was great, and the side characters were likable and well-developed. Both Ian and Lara were strong and ambitious, making for great chemistry. I loved their witty banter and how utterly unimpressed Lara was with Ian’s suave playboy exterior.
This book had a good balance of external and internal conflict, which was a nice change from Layne’s usually character-flaw-driven plots. Ian and Lara had a very realistic obstacle keeping them apart, in addition to the personal issues they had to overcome.
Hot Asset was the perfect quick and fun read and did a great job setting up the following two books.

3.75 stars ✨ the chemistry was good and the conflicts believable. sec agents really shouldn't fall for men on wall street. but what can you do! impressively low drama all things considered, which I always appreciate. and of course, layne couldn't write a book with bad side characters if she tried. I cannot WAIT to rip through the rest of the series.

Oooooooh yes!
I expected something stupid, not well written but super easy read with Hot Asses, well well well... What a wonderful surprise, I was wrong! So in the wrong!
I was pleasant from the start. The characters are so lovable that you want to be part of their group, their adventures and contribute to their shenanigans to help others get together!
I loved discovering their personalities and see the romance, the relationship unfold. It did not feel too easy, not too much on the nose (thanks for trying to go deeper into the emotional and more realistic aspect).

Now, I'll read Kate and Kennedy's story! I know it's the last book but to be honest, I do not really care that much for Matt and I bet Sabrina. Their story seems wayyyy too much evident and on the nose. I'm more intrigued to see if Kate and Kennedy will keep going their way or are going to OPEN their eyes, finally!

This was a really cute romance! Lara is in the SEC & she’s investigating Ian for insider trading. What happens when you are attracted to the last person you should be attracted to?! The banter in this was top tier. I absolutely loved Ian & Lara together. I also really loved the closeness of their friend group. I can’t wait to read more about Matt, Kennedy, Sabrina, & Kate.

13 pages into the book and my first impression was....I hope this book gets better. So far we have a nose stuck up in the air cop who (without doing any work yet) assumes the guy is guilty and a guy who is so conceited he just assumes every woman will drop to her knees for him. And surprise surprise only a few pages later he starts thinking about her on her knees. Honestly the characters didn’t get much better for me until way way at the end. Ian was this arrogant, alpha who was proud that no woman ever shared his bed twice. I’m so sick of those type of leads. It’s not sexy or endearing that he’s screwing women so freely without thought of consequence to them. Until he finds the one woman to change his mind and heart. That’s not how it works. Love doesn’t change the fundamental character of a person instantly just because you see someone across a crowded room or meet someone who challenges you! By the end of the book I could stand his character more but after reflecting on it it’s because his character was so incredibly different. I get people can change for the better but I just, I don’t know I didn’t like his character.
Then there’s Lara who was solely in his space to prove him guilty. With what evidence you might ask. None. None whatsoever. A cryptic and unknown source says he’s involved in insider trading. That’s all the proof she has to know he’s guilty, oh and the promotion to the FBI she’s been dreaming of all her life. Yet she’s touted as a person with integrity. She gets there eventually, after she falls for the man, along with kissing him. Only then does she agree he’s innocent.
To be perfectly honest I skipped a good portion of the middle. I was completely over the characters and as much as I didn’t like Ian I found Lara worse. The only reason I even read the ending is because I wanted to know how long it took this smart woman to figure out she was being played. Here’s a hint, it took waaayyyyyyy too long. FBI material she is not. The ending was way better then the book. Lara actually started to show some of the integrity she was supposed to have and Ian was like a different man. Almost made me forget what a douche he was. Almost.

I love office romance, and Lauren Layne created a fun, quick listen that had a full cast of both strong men and women. Hot Asset was narrated by Samantha Cook and Zachary Webber who both brought the story to life. I love really great narrators who do so much more than simply read a book aloud.

Ian Bradley is a typical Wall Street playboy. He’s cocky, madly successful, and extremely full of himself. Lara McKenzie comes in to take him down a notch when he is under investigation for insider trading. She is on a path aiming for the FBI and finding out that Ian is guilty will solidify her recommendation for Quantico. Everything is not as it seems however. I won’t spoil anything, but there is so much more to this story.

Ian and Lara are perfect opposites. She is a workaholic, he’s a playboy. She is awkward, and he is confident to a fault. Of course they are perfect for one another, even though it’s quite cliche. This was a solid 4 stars for me. It was a good story that was well thought out, but I missed a plot twist that wowed me. It was a perfect listen while I was working but I never had to stop and figure out what was going on.

Really good! Kind of like a combo of Lauren Layne and Julie James. I loved the love/hate relationship and all of the office dynamics. Super excited to keep reading this series.

like 2.5 starts

this was okay but kind of boring. i want to get out of the reading-slump, not return to it :'(
