Well I very rapidly started and then finished Yours Cheerfully and what a joy this book is! It follows on from Dear Mrs Bird and we return to Womenβs Friend magazine. It is 1941 and the Government needs women to work for the war effort recruiting magazines to encourage their readers to do their bit. The lovely Emmy Lake is now writing the Yours Cheerfully column and steps up to the plate for this new challenge. When she and her friend Bunty meet a young woman called Anne who shows them the real difficulties that women war workers face, Emmy realised that she must make a choice, do her duty or help her friends.
This book has some of the loveliest characters you will meet, Emmy and Bunty have a wonderful friendship, Charles is dashing, Mr Collins is just perfect and Ruby, well Ruby is just one lady you have to meet!
Themes are covered that are still pertinent today, equal pay for women, access to childcare for working mothers, and women being just seen and heard, not as second class citizens; it appears not much has changed in 70 years. But it made me still want to shout, we stand on the the shoulders of all the women that have come before us and fought for the right for us to live as we do now β€οΈ
A brilliant readβ¦Now for Mrs Porter Calling

Following the lovely Dear Mrs Bird, we have Yours Cheerfully.
This is a heartwarming read about Emmy Lake, a young woman who works for Women's Friend magazine, and while the war rages on, Emmy is determined to help on the Home Front.
When the Ministry of Information calls on Britain's womens magazines to help recruit female supporters, Emmy is thrilled to be involved.
But when her interview skills reveal the challenges that women war-workers face juggling 12 hour shifts with no childcare,
Emmy has a duty to respond.
This story captured the wartime spirit beautifully.

Delightfully charming historical fiction story set during the Second World War in London. Not as good as the first book of the series but still excellent. It just took a little while to get into it - unlike the first book.

Iβve been in a mood for journalism as a focus and this delivered. Set during the war, women are asked to go to work but arenβt being treated as they should with their unique skill sets. The journalist sees the women and fights for them to be heard.
